Could someone give me some advice on which encoding to use:charset=iso-8859-1 or utf8.
Which doc type: DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN or DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
Anyone have a preference!
Set all my page widths to 783px and validated every page, but after all the time spent validating is it really worth it. I've browsed 100s sites and I would say that well over half will show errors or is this acceptable.

4.01 was only a bunch of fixes/corrections from 4.0 I think. So I cant really see any reason to use 4.0 at all? I tend to use XHTML 1.0 Strict myself.

As for charset, long topic. But for a short answer, lets say ISO-8859-1 is the safest.

I'm no validation nazi but within reason I'll try to make sure things validate. After all validation gives some assurance in terms of search engines reading your site correctly.
