I have just signed up for x box live and was wondering what setup you have all got going on with your broadband connection. Just to double check that i have done everything right. And also what service for broadband you are all with.

Yes.

Basically, BT Broadband gives you broadband internet access and stuff all else.

BT Openworld Broadband gives you the same thing, plus email, plus newsgroups, plus webspace e.t.c.

If, like me, youhave abandoned your old dial up internet provider and you need email e.t.c. then get Openworld if you can, or sign up for free services for these.

If you still want to use dial up for email e.t.c and have kept your old ISP then go to BT Broadband.

Given the cost difference, I'd get Bt Openworld, but give either a ring if you want to know more.

Geordieboy, I think you are gettign a little confused,
if you have Bt broadband, then they ARE your ISP, as you have a broadband connection that works, which is all you need. You don't need the extra e-mail address' and so forth that comes with the openworld packages

i was originally only gtting bt broadband which meant that I would not be getting and ISP with it only internet explorer. But i am hoping to have changed to BT openworld because that means that you the ISP aswell. Do you need and ISP for x box live to work and if so which one do you guys have and could you tell me how much it costs.

Yes it will work. All you need to do when you create your ADSL dial up properties is enable ICS. When your connected to the internet via your ISP double click on the 2 screens in the bar near the clock. You should get the speed of your connection, time you've been connected e.t.c. And then click "properties", then click "advanced". You should see that you can enable a firewall and ICS. Becareful with the firewall option as XBox Live may not work with this ticked.

It is one of Microsofts suggested solutions as only 60% of the UK can access cable anyway, and most ISP's do bundles for USB modems, not ethernet ones. As long as you've set it up right then don't worry, it will work.

Several people on here who are in the beta have told me they use this method and have no problems, in fact it was adrian who told me about it in the first place ! I was going to get a router, which is expensive, but thanks to him I spent £8 on Ebay for a new NI card, and £3 on crossover cable, and I'm sorted.
