Sony had already taken the gaming market into its tight grasp and wasnt letting go for anyone, least of all a 'has been company' like many referred to Sega as.
So the Dreamcast came... then went, and with it went some of the best console games that money could buy, even by todays standards classics such as Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Soul Caliber etc... they are all still superb games and any single one of them warrants the purchase of a DC in their own right!
Sadly for Sega the Dreamcast failed, it just simply didnt sell that well despite having a great catalogue of fantasically innovative games, awesome peripherals and a state of the art 256 bit console powering them, so how did the DC fail? was it bad advertising? bad past consumer experinces (with the Saturn or mega 32?) whatever the reason was it was a sad day when Sega announced the DC was to be laid to rest.
So what now? well as you all know Sega are still about and making first class games for other consoles whilst simultaneously rebuilding its faith and respect in gamers the world over.
Heres the million dollar question... Have Sega genuinely given up on making consoles now and for the forseeable future or are they being very very clever and starting from the ground up and showing the entire gaming public what they can do then unleash a next gen console that will unquestionably sell like proverbial hot cakes?
Like you, i cant imagine a time without Sega, i do hope that Sega are indeed as clever as i hope they are and that they are trying to be as coy as possible about their future.
Heres hoping that when the masses have awoken to Segas abilities (by playing their games on other consoles and loving them to bits) that Sega will again rise like a phoenix and spread its wings proudly before taking its seat at the top of the tree.
Thankyou for reading.
Rabid.
I think most consoles will not do well anymore.. the nintendo will be next to shut down then the xbox.. people love the ps2 i dont get why but they do, the kinda people that fix up there car (boy racers) the people that buy PS2's they dont really play em cos they are in there car, but that dosnt matter beacuse they have one and so sony will get a sale. but sony isnt the prob they have been there for a long time remeber flashback? the prob is PC's people can download a game for the PC and so there is no need to buy a new game..
Oh well thats life... I love sega and I love nintendo but I know they are going to fad away, just like the neo geo... sad isnt it as there the people that starting the gaming world off... oh well.
I will without any hesitation pickup Shenmue 2 when i see it available at a respectable price (i recenlty payed £20 for SoA which is a steal in my book)
Sega are a massive name in console gaming, and im pretty sure that after they announced the DC would be discontinued that they wept and asked themselves a thousand times 'why?'
Well the tears will have dried now, and when we fall off a bike we tend to stay away from it for a while, its natural... pain = unpleasant, but as humans were curious and have an overwhelming urge to succeed, so we (with encouragement and a little stupidity perhaps) get back on the bike, then pedal away like an estranged Russian athlete on steroids!
Im beginning to go into 'weird mode' so i'll cut it short here and just say that i hope Sega's bike hasnt been punctured too badly :)
It all just seems like theres another chapter here somewhere, the story just seems unfinished somehow, yes im clinging onto hope but i just get the slightest impression that its not fools gold im looking at but maybe im wrong.

I too, would like to see a Rebirth of SEGA somehow. If you look at an early thread here, you'll see that I've started playing Shenmue again.
It's this kind of innovation what has stopped since SEGA left the ring.
Im unaware of a similar post but appologise to anyone in advance if this is a similar posting (sry)
Ive just been hearing alot lately about Capcom and Nintendo, Rare and Microsoft, but its been fairly quiet surrounding Sega (not counting the rumours about Ninto buying them, which im sure are false)
Sega do seem to be playing a very good card game whilst staying out of everyones way, not to mention selling bucket loads of their own games to the 3 major consoles.

HOWEVER, sorry If you haven't (and sorry if I'm being disrespectful), but this looks like somehting I've seen before...
Like I said; my fault if you haven't.
...I'll read the post now.
