But Why should we be even slightly interested in Super Mario Advance 2, it is again evidence of Nintendo doing to the handheld market to what Sony is doing to the console market not bothering with anything special. But be that as it may, Super Mario Advance 2 (Super Mario World) is the greatest game any living being alive would have seen, smelt or played. The fact that the greatest 2D platformer can now be played in the palm of your hand, on the beach, on the bus, during lessons (or is that just me) and on the moon is cool enough but as usual Nintendo have not settled with a simple conversion. There has been a few subtle changes, a new beginning screen to kick start it all off, Luigi is now slower but a higher jumper in the two player mode instead of him being a clone of Mario like in the original. There has been the addition of a few new mini-games to add length to the already massive game and to top it all off, Mario Brothers the very same game found in Super Mario Advance 1 is back and yes that means the four player mode too. For those not familiar with Super Mario World then there is no excuse for you not to get this game, 96 exits, star levels, Yoshi’s special stage, Block lands, ghost houses, Castles, ice caverns, Cave’s even a ship wreck. This is the first time you can actually play as our favourite green lizard Yoshi, it is absolutely outstanding and I won’t miss it for the world even if I did complete it on the SNES 3 times.
Luigi’s Mansions has received bad reviews by those who were hoping for Mario 64 2, whilst people like me see this as a completely different adventure, not trying to be Mario and those people often comment that Luigi’s Mansion is great. This is the 3D/2D version of Mario; Shigsy crossed Mario World with Mario 64 and out came this ghost-busting hybrid. You can’t really categories this in any genre, similar to Conker, technically it’s a platformer but well it isn’t. Luigi’s Mansion is a ghost busting game, you wonder from room to room, finding keys beating bosses and trying to find Mario. Some claim the game is too repetitive and short, but imagine if it was too repetitive and long? Admittedly Luigi’s Mansion is no epic the game can be done in a weekend, Shiguru tried but failed to create a play and play again title, the idea that you try and find everything once you have completed the game in a mode called “Hidden Mansion” was a nice idea as it may indeed double the lifespan but this mode wasn’t compelling enough to really bother with and so the game got tiring very quickly. But Shigsy after hearing the response of American and Japanese gamers is well aware of this and is adding a few extras to the European version to make “Hidden Mansion” a slightly longer, a more compelling experience. Why he can’t do what everyone else does and attach a Multiplayer mode is a mystery to me.
The final Mario adventure to hits these shores will appear this Christmas and is the first proper Mario sequel since Mario 64, which means it is a long overdue (6 years or so) adventure. But whilst making this adventure Shigsy has made so many new gameplay elements it looks just as original as Mario’s first 3D outing. Whilst Mario 64 was the 3D version of Mario Brothers, a game filled with ideas, Mario Sunshine seems the 3D update of Mario World, loads more ideas adding variety to the original gameplay. Yoshi is in it, weather he will play as large as part as he did in Mario World (oh please say he does) or a part as large as his Mario 64 appearance it to be seen but if he is playable then Mario Sunshine already does something Mario 64 never did, incorporate another character to control. The water cannon on his back that can be used to shoot falling paint and baddies such as the already show piranha plants, The water cannon is different, Mario famous for jumping on his enemies now has another form of dispatching them like in Super Mario Brothers 2 (Mario Advance), which adds a little more into the action stakes. Mario now walks the tight rope and the famous grate climbing that he did way back in Mario World. These all-new elements already prove to me that Mario Sunshine will be an original and epic quest. Zelda’s cel-shaded look caused quiet a stir, Shigsy believes it wouldn’t have done quiet as much if he had waited like he believed he should have done as those graphics do get 15 times better than they looked, there wasn’t even any detail. Mario Sunshine meanwhile is different and so many now criticize the game, it is so bland I hear many say. Well compare Mario 64 to Banjo-Kazooie, many will agree Mario was much, much better, but Banjo’s graphics were leaps and bounds ahead of Mario’s. The detail on Banjo-Kazooie was phenomenal and gorgeous, Mario meanwhile was very bland but very colourful, which is exactly what Mario Sunshine is, the graphics seem nice enough, sprawling landscape, plain and simple without any slow down or fog and it looks like what Mario games have always looked like.
Mario and co. make many appearances this year, Luigi and his game will hit European shores on May 3rd, it is a big hit all over the world and although far from perfect it isn’t a game you will hate but one you will find an enjoyable experience. Super Mario Advance 2 will appear very shortly and although it is nothing new it is something very special and then there is Mario Sunshine that will be over here by Christmas, this tops my most anticipated charts even above Zelda, Metroid, Perfect Dark, Eternal Darkness and Starfox Adventures, all other titles I cannot wait to get my mitts on. Of course I have only looked at the adventure titles, Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach etc… is gearing up for their fight on May 24th in the form of Smash Brothers (which features its own Platform esq. adventure), and there is undoubtedly many other GBA and Gamecube titles still unannounced. But for all you Zelda and Pokémon fans out there, wait till 2003, let the plumber that has spearheaded Nintendo into the mainstream market, the Italian that has caused both male and female gamers to love Nintendo and the prehistoric fat man that has made millions each time he appears, to have his year. After all he does deserve it.
Here’s to the Future.
Dringo.
God Damn...only a few days away now...
Sonic Advance also out this week. Very nice week...
> Dringo, your hype will hurt you.
His hype will not hurt him as such. As most of it will probably be met. Unlike *cough* Metal Gear *cough* Solid 2 *cough*.
:-D
After all hiding behind a monitor with a Keyboard in front of you isn't Confrontational enough.
Maybe you and Dringo could arrange to meet somewhere and and fight it out.
;)

Excellent idea. We haven't had sa good old war for ages. Make accusations about the PlayStation, make something up about the Xbox, say how ninty wil rul u al bcoz dey mak da best gayms and sony gaystation suckz. What the hell, just write something confontational!
Because people WILL buy

perfectly true!
Dringo, stop writing these monotonous "the sun shines out of
> Nintendo's ass" topics. I'm sick to death of them.
1: This is about Mario not Nintendo, sure they make Mario but i didn't really refer to them that much in the post, its more about Mario games...
2: Maybe i should write... Playstation rules no wait i dont like the Playstation...
3: Maybe i should write about Microsoft... wait i don't like them.
4: maybe is should write about Nintendo, no hang on people don't like me writing about that...
5: maybe i should bad mouth the opposition... no wait i get moaned at for writing them...
6: maybe i should write stories... hang on i do.
7: maybe Turbonutter should stop picking on other people's posts... now there is a good idea.
