Is it possible to get an image, split it into smaller images, put in a table, and upload onto website...... quickly?

The reason for this is that I have a large image and I want to split it into smaller ones to reduce the download time of the overall picture.

I have photoshop 6, but im not sure if it allows you to do this.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Why not just use Paint? Does the job for me.

Thanks for you help, I think I'll stick with Photoshop 6 though :-)

Ive managed to find a slice function on PS6 that does the job quite nicely.

OK...

My advice is NOT to use PS6 and go and get a trial of Fireworks. Alternatively, go to download.com and nab one of the zillions of free programs that do this.

Yes, Fireworks is a good prog, but he asked for advice on PS6 though! You guys are suggesting he goes out and gets hold of a different peice of software, when the one he has is perfectly up to the job if he just knew how to use it!

If he wanted advice on how to use Fireworks, he wouldn't have asked for advice on using PS6.

Fireworks is *definitely* the way to go with this one, although the GIMP (gimp.org, free) has a image-slicing function. Never tried it though.

Oh, and if you save your image in Imageready, PS6 still lets you edit it as normal, then you can take it back in to Imageready for re-slicing if needed, and it should remember the slices you made to the image the last time round, so you can just export again without having to define the slice areas again.

If you have PS6 then you should also have installed (or at least have the CD for *cough cough*) Imageready 3.0, which will help you greatly...

1) open up the picture you want to slice
2) go to File > Jump To > Adobe Imaeready - this will open up the current image in Imageready
3) The interface is very like PS6, find the "Slice" tool, it's about 3rd down on the right hand side of the main tool pallette, where the paint bucket and the marquee tool are.
4) now drag your cursor across the image as if you are making a marquee.. it makes a box instead, this is a slice,
5) repeat 4 so that your image is sliced exactly how you want it to be
6)go to File > Save Optimised As then specify a new HTML file name, and Imageready will export the image, sliced up, and write the table containing the images in HTML for you.
7) Open up the newly created HTML file, realise it is not quite right, try again!

Hope that helps... You dont have to trust the HTML produced, you could probably build a better table yourself, but at least you should have the sliced images now.

can't you just use the marquee tool? good thing about photoshop is, it stays the same size, so: marquee > cut > new layer > paste(puts in place) > go back to original layer > move marquee......

You can do this in Fireworks using the slice tool. Simply slice your images into segments, then export each individual one. I'm not sure how to do it in Photoshop though.
