Sony is cutting back by half its release
of 1 million PlayStation 2 video game
consoles in North America, set for Oct.
26, because of production delays that stem
from a component shortage. Sony Computer
Entertainment America Inc. said that it
would still meet its target of shipping 10
million units of the game worldwide,
inluding three million to North America,
in its fiscal 2001 year, which ends March
31. The plan seems to be 500,000 at launch
with 100,000 to follow each week after.

What does this mean for the UK release? Who knows.
I think it is a rather good strategy really, but I think they could put the amount a lot higher and still get away with it...
I want my PS2!!! and I am getting rather fed up with this whole pre-order mess up. Come on Sony sort it out.
I wonder if they've cut back to divert components to UK machines, to increase the number available on release day, and avoid our release slipping any further?
If anyone gets more info, please let us know here!
