My money's on Coulthard. He drove a brilliant race last year to get up to second and only a few seconds behind Schumacher after starting 8th on the grid. The new McLaren looks good in testing and he should have the advantage over Raikkonen.
Ferrari probably won't be brilliantly fast without their new care but they will be extremely reliable so podioms are very likely.
The BMW engine probably won't benefit from the Australian track without too many long straights. So Williams probably won't be as fast as Coulthard's McLaren.
Of the others practically all the teams will be aiming for points hoping for unreliability of the front runners. Renault and Jordan may challenge for podium places depending on how the McLarens and Williams last out.
That's my opinion, what about yours?
I want anyone but Hakkinen to win.

Well you dont need to worry there then as he will be safely tucked up at home watching the race on the telly. The poor boy needed a rest this year as it is oh so stressfull.
I think Schuey will win and at the end of the day he is still the best driver out there, Montoya is learning the in's and out's of F1 fast and isn't that far behind, Coulthard looks like being the proverbial nearly man through out his career, he needs full support from Maclaren this year otherwise he will probably quit soon as well.
Let's just hope this season is a bit more even than last year, and yes - I am another one of those saddo's that will be watching Practice and the race live - thers is no other way to do it..

Hakkinen has taken a year out of Formula 1. I doubt he will come back, but that is my opinion.
It's just not the same, especially with rent-a-spam Jim Rosenthal lizarding his way through commentary.

perhaps some teams were sandbagging a little?
I doubt they would be sandbagging that much. Today will be a better indication of the overall speed as most teams will try for the qualifying setup.

There is nothing sad about that. I've been watching the race and qualifying live since 1993.
But how many times has someone shown amazing speed in practice, for them to actually qualify about 16th?
Not that I'm saying Scheuy will be that far down the grid, but because it's the very first practice of the first race of the season, perhaps some teams were sandbagging a little?
I guess we'll find out at 3am our time, I'm going to be sad and get up to watch the qualifying, and the race.
