I walked into my local rental shop, and saw a small shelf with pre-owned or ex-rental DVDs, and I noticed that the back-cover was totally different on one of the DVDs as to what the "normal" retail version is. After further investigation, I discovered that rental DVDs do not always have the extras on, to aid the speed of releasing the DVDs. Whenever I look at an ex-rental now, I always check out the back cover first, to see if it contains extras. If it doesn't, I don't give it a second look. Also, some of them have that annoying "Rental Copy" strip at the top. I bought The Grinch on ex-rental today (made sure first that it had all features) for £9.99.

What I'm grabbing at is this: is there a point in ex-rental DVDs for the consumer? I think that if they have all the features the regular retail version has, then sure - I'd be all for it, but what is the real point in depriving it of special features? I'd rather wait longer and get all the features when I rent a DVD.

You gets what yous pays fors.

That's what they say, and here I guess it's true. But as long as you have a good look before you buy it's alright, isn't it?

yeah but it's normaly done to stop retailers selling the rental copies and also some DVD rentals are released way before the retail copy so has less or no features to speed it's rental release up.

i never buy rental disks anyway :)
