KYOTO JAPAN- 27th FEBRUARY 2002

As of 26th FEBRUARY 2002 Nintendo Co Ltd, purchased a stake of 25% of Shares from Squaresoft at the Japanese Stock market.
Four months ago, Sony Computer Entertainment purchased a 19% of Stock in the company, fuelling speculation of exclusiveness within the PS2 format.
Furthermore, the purchase of stocks by Sony Computer Entertainment rescued the Videogame company Squaresoft from financial difficulties after the US and Worldwide box office failure of the CG Final Fantasy movie.
Nintendo's move has come as a surprise to the industry with a higher share than it's Japanese rival, since the late 90's Squaresoft shunned Nintendos new console being the Nintendo 64 for exclusive development of the successful Final Fantasy titles for the Playstation console, ending years of good business between the two companies.
The move from Nintendo has guaranteed development for its Gamecube console and Gameboy Advance.
A statement from Squaresoft is expected shortly.
