With franchises like the Simpsons that are so popular it is easy to sell just about any product that has their moniker on them, I will bet that there are even people who will read reviews of games like these and even though they get poor or average write ups will still go out and buy the game thinking "Yes but it is the Simpsons so it cant be that bad" - The Disney games are typical of this.
When Auntie Doris goes out to buy little johnny a birthday present, knowing that he has a PS2 and knowing that he likes watching the Simpsons - she sees Simpsons bare back Turtle racing for 19.99 and buys it.

star wars games, james bond games, x mens games, lord of the rings games. tomb raider, final fantasy and resident evil movies.
if you had a successful brand, you'd be exploiting it too.
