Don't you just hate it when your computer crashes, and after it crashes you try endless times to get it going without having to restart it? This isn't just for consoles, but PCs as well.
Quite recently, I've been bashing away on one of my oldest games for the PS2, DOA2. I hadn't played this for a very long time, but for some strange reason my conscience told me to play it, so wisely I did. I was atonished...WHACK WHACK "what a move!"...I was astonished as I started to like the game again. I think it may have been because I hadn't played it in ages, but then the unthinkable happened at the most awkward of times - my Playstation2 crashed! I could feel the blood and adrenaline of disbelief rushing to my head before the 'wishing' ceremony began.
I pressed every button, every combination of buttons, tapped the case...just trying everything to get it running again, but it was no use. The worst thing was, I had the best score EVER and there were still more fights to come - I just couldn't believe it!
Eventually, I restarted the console in despair and in a terrible state of shock, but this event had dropped my morale and I didn't feel like attempting my "unsaved" top score. Why it crashed I do not know, but what I do know is that it better not happen again or else I might have to do something I would really regret like watch Emmerdale or eat cheese...what, you thought I was going to say smash my game up?...NEVER!!!
It's not the game's fault if it crashes, when it crashes it's due to poor maintenance and I think my problem was that I hadn't played it for a long while.
Crashes aren't so bad compared to this next worst case scenario. Imagine coming home to find your console had been severely damaged - no - neither could I until the 22nd October, 1999.
I had just arrived home from college, when I heard the sounds of joy and laughter coming from upstairs...but where? I took my coat and shoes off slowly, and walked up the stairway feeling nackered and weary. Now, I could recognise where this happiness was coming from - my room...but wait...why has the noise stopped?
I walked towards my room in true Matrix-style, swung open the doors and there were my little cousins playing with my little brother on my Playstation. "Aaawwwwe, how sweet" I thought, until I realised they were staring at me with fear, plus nothing was playing on the Tv screen. I looked up at my Playstation, where it would normally be, but it wasn't there. I saw numerous leads stretching across the Playstation's area and followed them down........
"AAAAAAAAGGHHHH!!! What've you done?! Get out of my room now you little !*@&%£!"
There was my lovely grey box, all battered and beaten. The CD-opener case was cracked, the Tekken 2 disc was smashed and buttons from my pads were missing
"How could they do this to me?" I thought with anger.
My lovely Playstation was broken and I was in total shell-shock! The fact that my favourite console I played on most of the time had been destroyed, didn't hit me until I was really bored, and desperately wanting to play Destruction Derby. Lucky for me, I got a new one, and from that day on I put a lock on my bedroom door, so they could play it only when I'm there!
Think of your favourite format and think of it being dismantled and tampered with - a horrid sight I know - now bring it to reality! Console peripherals are getting more expensive by the day because of their enhancements, and we all know that if say our controllers were broken we would have to buy new ones, so we try and protect them as much as possible from the eyes of the deceived ones! The PS2 pads especially, have been hardened so it's much more difficult to break, that's why mine have lasted so long!
There are so many bust-ups or safety hazards to be cautious about with gaming. Your console is at stake people and I suggest you protect them as much as possible or else you'll find yourself spending more money on peripherals than games themselves.
TIPS:
Clean discs regularly to avoid crashes
Keep pads etc. in a position away from harm
Save as much as possible! (DON'T TAKE THE RISK!)
Don't let anyone play on YOUR computer without permission
Do these things and you'll be hazard-free!!!
And as for hurting people, well, those little squirts I'm sure have learnt their lesson since then. I let nature take its course and they haven't broke anything of mine...yet!
No matter how times my game crashes I always seem to carry on playing without saving? I still dont understand why i do it. I suppose it could be somthin along the lines if me thinking "bah, it only crashed once, whats the odds of it happening again"...but still, everytime it crashes and i feel like crap.
Mostly happens on Championship Manager. I lost 2 months of the season, about 7 games. That sucked, but I still dont save that often. Possibly I'm just too wraped up in the game when I'm playing or again i'm just being ignorant.
I'm lucky though, none of my consoles have ever been broken. I would probably hurt somebody if that ever happened...
