Requiem for a Dream - A great portrayal of the effect of drugs.
It's a french film about racism and inner city life, I'm not one for world cinema that much but this film inspired me and changed my mind about foreign films. It's very deep and worth a watch. Best quote of the film:
"A man jumps from a ten storey window and on his way down he says to himself 'so far, so good!'"
Fantastic if you go into it without knowing what the hell it's about.
Grosse Point Blank - Yes, its Cusack again! This is my all-time favourite film. Cusack is fantastic, (both of them, his sister is in it too), as is Dan Akroyd, (have I spelt that right?)
Jackie Chan driving cars down mountains, hangs on to speeding buses, has an amazing fight sequence in a shopping mall, slides down a 70ft pole wrapped in Christmas lights etc etc.
Dirty Harry & The Dollars Trilogy--Big Clint at his best.
Slap Shot--Classic ice hockey film with Paul Newman as the coach of the Chiefs, a third-rate, minor league hockey team. To build up attendance at their games, management signs up three odd-looking players to attack opposition on the rink. Comedy classic.
Beverly Hills Cop--I've had it on region 1 dvd for a month now and it's out on dvd in the UK soon. All i can say is if you haven't seen it, get it.
Trading Places--Again, if you haven't seen it, get it.
Kindergarten Cop--Go on, you know you love it. Come on, Arnie with a pet ferret...classic.
Cannonbal Run - Burt Reynolds & Dom DeLouise. 'Nuff said
The French Connection - for the car/train chase that was filmed for real, only the stunt-driver and director knew they were filming. All the cars skidding away and pedestrians leaping out of the way are for real. The single most impressive car chase ever. Bullit is good, but when you realise they were doing this for real with no permits?
Awesome
Prince of Darkness - scariest John Carpenter film ever.
Miami Blues - Because of Fred Ward "He stole my teeth", Spirit in The Sky playing over the credits and a hari-krishna being murdered in an airport in the opening 4 minutes.
Cannonball Run - Because it's funny.
Both are fighting for top place in the Grix's favourite comedy film.
Requiem for a Dream - A great portrayal of the effect of drugs.
