Dawn Of time:
Adam and Eve the original gamers they used to play catch the snake or grab the melons all day (I am of course referring to the melons which grew plentifully and the snake which was always offering them the apple!) This was the start of games.
Time of the Dinosaurs:
Ahh the dinosaurs but what few people know is that there where a few thrill-seekers in the form of cave men among them they would go out individually and paint on dinosaurs and then attempt to get away without that annoying beheading. What you didn’t really think T-Rex’ where green did you? Oh no pink was their true colour!
0000:
The time of Jesus’ birth and the first competitive games where created you see prophets had been betting on when he would be born. Shepherds where also competing giving the biggest sheep.
Romans:
Ah the true racing giants now they really invented an unused genre racing/fighting in the form of chariot racing (Ok so we had the awful chariot maximus) They also had the big Gladiators (Which also gave us the ‘cool’ *cough* ITV programme)
Vikings:
Viking longboats where often used for racing purposes and were surely the start of the boat races we see today.
up to 1900:
Not much to tell but with the invention of early cameras and slide show Victorians where making progress.
Up to 2000:
A very technological age with the invention of the Television in the early half which later progressed to colour was perhaps one of the biggest jumps. In about the 1980’s we were hit by an apparent ‘Arcade Fever’ with the making of ‘PAC-MAN’, ‘Donkey Kong’ and even the momentous ‘Space invaders’ gaming was taking form. Towards the end of the 90’s we were seeing TV’s that we had never before seen the introduction of Wide-screen becoming apparent and PCs were also advancing at an astounding rate after the break of the 200Mhz barrier the industry suddenly took a huge jump. Playstation, Nintendo 64, Snes and Megadrive were just a few of the house hold gaming names which were becoming respected, but with the flop of the Atari machines (perhaps just a bit too advanced for the age but a great console which went unnoticed) the gaming trade wasn’t all easy.
2001:
After the raging success of the playstation Sony released the PS2 the first console which really grasped the nation and with games like GT3 which even now a year and a half on can keep up with any current graphics it is no wonder that it is still the best selling console despite being the most expensive. Gaming was now cool.
2002:
Microsoft made their first shot at console making and despite the rumours and bias it was and still is a good console boasting power such as we have never before seen the likes of. Nintendo too released a ‘Next-Gen’ console the Gamecube which up until then had been code-named the ‘Dolphin’. The Next Gen battle was on.
2003+:
Who knows what is to come maybe the world will end? (Ha that would settle it :P) no one really knows except the games console designers lets just hope the next 20 years is as fun as the last 20!
