I hope this isn't repeat of any previous topics

The Gamecube, in it's current console wars, would appear to have advantages (just like the other contenders) and disadvantages (also like the other contenders). Some are blatantly obvious, but some are slightly more subtle and almost go without being noticed. So I thought I'd do a post on the ups and downs of this console.

The Gamecube has it's fair share of problems. Now most of these can be resolved easily enough, but one which cant is the fact that it's not a DVD player. Now I know many of you will say "..but a games console only needs to play games..." but in all honesty with every other contender having this ability is is a big disadvantage. This, though, is also solved by the fact that alot of gamers who intend to buy a GC probably have PS2. So no real problem. One other major problem, which will be solved in the months to come, is that although Nintendo said they wanted no so many third party titles, only 2 titles at launch are going to be of Nintendo's doing - Waverace : Blue Storm and Luigi's Mansion. Ironically enough, I preordered Super Monkey Ball.
Still, they do boast, by summer, to have 50 titles available, one of the best launches in history. And our final problem, the constant kiddyishness of the games. Now very soon the GC will becomean adult console with Resident Evil etc, but for a small while, this console will be kiddyish .. but you can wait, cant you??

Now on to the better part ... the advantages. Now personally i think Nintendo (and Sega) make some of the best games in the world. This belief grows further with some of the games coming out on the GC - Wave Race, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Mario Sunshine, all very promising titles. So I guess you could call that advantage the amount of first and third party backers the GC (and Nintendo) have managed to gather up, making the choice of games by Xmas 2002 quite vast (thats if the GC aint a flop :) ). Another upper for the GC is the fact that it's so damn cheap! The console is just over half the price of an Xbox, and the peripherals are all considerably cheaper than PS2 and Xbox. And finally, at last, there's no loading times (I've been told). Since the discs are only 8cm DVD's loading times have been drastically lowered or completely wiped out. Lets hope for the latter.

The possibilities for Nintendo are endless. I've seen how much expansion that thing can give and god online gaming seems so much closer.

Hope this has been an informative, yet interesting read

Nintendo don;t use DVD problem, point 1:

1: There is one in Japan.
2: Buy a DVD player then, games console = games console.
