When I read the SR news article "N64 killed my son" I laughed. I didn't laugh at the fact a fellow Nintendo fan has perished oh no that isn't a laughing matter, no I am just laughing at the fact that his Mum is trying to sue Nintendo.

Ok the poor woman must be upset, the son she loved and cared for so much was taken away from her, she must be devastated. But if I had a son or daughter that got run over by a Ford Car I wouldn't sue Ford. If the N64 had somehow grown teeth and ripped his neck out maybe I'd understand. But the poor man played the console for 8 hours straight! Now maybe the "play for 1 hour then leave 15 minutes" warning wasn't good enough, Nintendo warned you, they warned you not to play it for too long yet he still did.

If someone dies of Smoking would you sue Benson and Hedges? No they warn you smoking can kill yet someone goes ahead and smokes anyway. But you see people do sue cigarette companies on account of addiction. They say you made them too addictive he wanted to quit but couldn't so died of smoking. So I ask is this the case to be argued in court? Sorry but Nintendo games are too addictive and so he couldn't stop playing... What???? So Nintendo may be forced to make there games less good to prevent further deaths? Sorry but that is stupid.

I am sure I've heard of a similar Playstation case that a guy played on a Playstation 2 days straight and got dehydrated, now you may say the fool but the reason is that he needed a Memory card to save the game, but didn't have one so he had to continually play it. Now why sue a company for doing seemingly nothing wrong. If a man died from playing his N64 too much, he must of died happy and the fact is he shouldn't have played it for too long anyway!

But could these isolated cases cause problems for us? May we sooner or later, after playing games for an hour or so get a message flash on our screen "TAKE A BREAK!" I doubt it but it is still something Nintendo could be asked to do if they fail their case... So what do you think, a man's stupidity has caused his death yet they go and blame someone else... I suppose it is true, everyone is suing everybody.

Here's to the future

This brings up I Am Tarrants old topic:

WOuld you play games if you knew that they were bad for you and dangerous to your health.

Seeing as this man got seizures and kept playing, he clearly would've answered yes, and I might too...

Now use sueing Nintendo over it though.

It's obnoxious of her to even consider suing nintendo; I mean, why, exactly?

She doesn't have a valid or logical reason to do so other than her reluctant son wouldn't quit hoggin' the damn machine.

Actually Pokemon does cause seizures- one episode caused 30,000 Japanese kids to collapse after a flashing red explosion was shown

I gave an answer to this on Meka's post earlier today on Chat, but I'll say it again.

The man was playing a console for 8 hours a day 6 days a week and it says on the boxes, take breaks and don't play for more than an hour at a time. Did he listen? No. I'm not trying to be sad or anything, but it is his own fault, and I can also understand his mother wanting compensation or something, but she can't sue Ninty. Not their fault...

I commented on this a minute ago in the Ninty WLT.

I basically feel that the N64 didn't kill him, and it was his only fault for playing it for rediculous amounts of time, dailly!!
I also reckon he spent the other 16 hours of the day watching Japanese cartoons, hence the seizure!
You don't get them from N64 games, not even Pokémon!

And if he's 30, why's he still living at home?? Why's he got no life or job?? And why didn't his mum restrict his time????

In conclusion, it's not the N64's fault, but more of his own!

Yeah good points. I hadn't read this beforehand but I have written something similar on the FOG chat (Indefensible)about what I feel on the situation. I am more concerned about what effect this will have on the industry. How much more bad press will it be saddled with?

Yeah i thought this case was a little outrageous as well, if the woman gets any money from Nintendo i will be surprised, there are explicit warnings in the instructions about playing times.
