I was just wondering why AMD have decided to use fiber glass for the new green athlon xp chips instead of the old ceramic brown chips, i would have though ceramic was the better material as it must conduct heat better than fiber glass, unless they don't want the die to dissapate it's heat over the chip and centralise it to the die which is the only part of the chip touching the heatsink (which would make sence) anyone got any idea's

I know now
AMD are useing a differant package on the athlon xp chips OPGA (Organic Pin Grid Array) they have used fiber glass for improved impendance and more importantly COST

I think you pretty much answered your own question. The heat properties of ceramic are (IIRC) very good, so the heat from the core is spread out through it. This sounds good, but if only the core is in contact with the heatsink then the heat has no where to go so just sits in the ceramic effectively heating the CPU even more.
