I know many people say you should 'hand-carve' websites out of Notepad or something similar and not go near any type of website editor/program if you are doing things properly! ;¬)

BUT using an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) or other similar 'web design' program helps me.

Earlier this year I bought a copy (2 actually) of Microsoft's Expression Web 4 no laughing at the back! and have to say apart from a few silly bugs (English spell check missing for some users for one example) I've been impressed with it.

It's not a full blown WYSIWYG website editor so users are encouraged to run in code or split views.

For those people out there that are looking for a free website editor your luck has changed as Microsoft have just announced the end of lifecycle for EW4 and are now offering the program as a FREE download.

You can read the Microsoft announcement and download the program from expression.microsoft.com/en-us/

I bought two copies (one for my daughter) and the version running on Windows 7 has been fine but on my trusty old XP machine Expression Web 4 caused my first ever BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)!
After much poking about I found that applying this hotfix fixed things for me. It updates sxs.dll - it shouldn't be required on an XP SP3 PC but I checked the file versions mentioned on the hotfix page and found mine wasn't correct - the hotfix corrected this.

A great opportunity to start creating your own website :¬)
