One thing Nintendo always do well are multiplayer games and namley the awsome Mario Kart. 3 version have been released on the N64, SNES and GBA... all brilliant and when i saw a short demo of Mario Kart at Spacworld i felt a little pleased... or did i? What can Nintendo do to Mario Kart??? A simple up grade, a few new characters???
Well like Metroid, Starfox Adventures, Eternal Darkness, Zelda and Mario, Nintendo are treating Mario Kart as one of the biggest and most important Gamecube titles and they intend to make a few "major" changes in order to keep its originality. Sure enough Crash team racing, Diddy Kong Racing and Konami Krazy racing or something like that have ripped Mario Kart off and so Nintendo are about to give a shot of adrenalline into the series to prevent it getting old...
It isn't and unusal move, Nintendo frequently do something drastic in order to prevent a series getting stale, Yes they could of made Pokemon World a simple 350 update (which they have done) but they also add new bits in (like the e-card reader) so it feels fresh and that is what they are to do with Mario's most successful game along with his platform adventures...
So what is he going to do?? Well Nintendo don't even know just yet, they are in talks as we speak but Shigsy is involved in these talks and as you may guess by the title one new addition could be Sonic...
Now it may not be that drastic but Sonic??? A character that can run faster than the karts themselves??? What could this mean, could Mario Kart actually not star Mario at all? Could Mario Kart actually feature a whole host of Sonic characters to race against? or is Sonic simply going to be a new character? And if he is, is Shigsy's good friends the Sonic team going to be assisting the development???
This isn't a rumour Shigsy actually said "Sonic is being considered as a character". So there we have it, discuss away.

Wasn't there a Sonic Kart-style game on the GameGear??
It was kinda similar to Mario Kart and co, but you had no weapons or anything, and it was basically a simple racer with different Sonic characters.
But you're idea seems much better, and i'd like to see this game and Mario Kart combine so you could have Mario vs. Sonic! It would've also been good if you could have Mario v Sonic in Smash Bros.

Mario Kart GC is going to rock, truly. Hopefully I can get my hands on it in the future.
Changes to the game are good, it leaves you wondering and when your wondering what Nintendo can do it's only good. So things are looking great on that front.
Sonic in Mario Kart? I like this whole idea of two companys together, it makes me happy to not see wars going on. My love goes to Sega for its tatic in not developing a console and sticking to the games side, they are doing well, very well it seems. They'll be back though, they'll be back with a console unlike any other.
Just watch this space.

Well, thankfully Sega's developers are all independant so that Sonic Team have full control of the Sonic licence. Seeing how closely Miyamoto-san and Naka-san have become (with Naka-san giving presentations at Nintendo's biggest conferences and having quite a lot of input on the Gamecube's Internet facilities), it is quite possible that he, as head of Sonic Team, could allow Miyamoto to make the game.
This would work in both companies' favours. Nintendo would have a guranteed best selling game- the first to have Mario and Sonic battling it out (how great would that be in Smash Brothers!). Sega would get their character in a top profile game, and this would lead to higher sales of their own games.
