Ever since it has been announced, you eagerly await a game. Pretty much every waking moment is spent reading about, thinking about and talking about this game. The weeks pass, and it is soon to be released. How lovely is that feeling, that you've waited for ages and a day, and the game arrives on your doorstep. If you've ever experienced anything like this, you'll agree with me that the feeling you get at this moment is the best in the world.
I love anticipation. It is fun and involving. Okay, so you may be annoyed that you can't get the game now, but I remember back to the PS2 launch with joy. My best mate and I both wanted, and were getting a PS2. Every lunchtime, break time and moment of our lives were dominated by chat of PS2. We'd read mags, go on the internet, and generally have a great time talking about it. It was just so great, so fun, yet so frustrating. No matter how depressingly poor the PS2 was at launch, the anticipation was great fun.
I also remember waiting for Final Fantasy 9. Any magazine with any information on it would be bought. I'd scour the internet for information. Call me obsessed, but I couldn't wait for Final Fantasy 9. So what if I'd already spent half my life playing the others, I couldn't wait. It is the same for other people. Look at the GameCube, people on these forums crave the GameCube, and consequently everyone talks about it. Its good fun to chat, and anticipation is fun too.
I know the feeling when you just need a certain thing. Anticipation, while frustratingly reassuring, can just be plain annoying. I got that feeling during the few weeks before the launch of the GameBoy Advance. I needed it. And when it was couriered to my house that lovely Friday's morning, I couldn't believe it, because finally it had come. I think that anticipation is great, but only once whatever you wanted had finally come.
So what do you anticipate? Metal Gear Solid 2? The Xbox? GameCube? Mario Sunshine? Everybody has something to look forward to and, come on, admit it, it is fun to talk about it for hours on end with your mates. For me, I am rejoicing to think that when Final Fantasy 6 is released on Friday it comes with a playable FF10 demo, because I'm looking forward to it to no end, and while it still ain't out until July, I get a taster to begin with. Bonza, ma' Herman.
So then, tell me now, there has to be something which you crave with every bone in your body. It is an inevitable fact of life, and for some, like me, anticipation is great fun, or at least when with your equally eager friends. :-D
I usually always get hyped about things. It is something I can't help. It will probably be a while before I have enough to get myself a Gamecube because I keep having to buy the latest good looking PS2 game. I want Metal Gear Solid 2, State of Emergency, Crash, Stuntman. Driver 3 wouldn't go down too badly either. Though they are all the same sort of thing that I've played before, except Metal Gear they are still very wantable.
So, when I get all I want, I could be slightly in debt to my parents, but I'm hoping SR can improve that by giving me a few GADs.... :D
If I see a game in advance of its release date that I like then I pre-order the game and leave it at that. I wont go around building up a false opinion of the game before I have played it; too many dissapointments of top games for that to happen.
Just let the game come to you. I Believe the game will be much more enjoyable like this.
