i don`t know where i saw this pick (it was on the net) but it had 4 consoles in it, gamecube, xbox and ps2. it also had a strange console next to them (no it wasn`t a dreamcast) and it was a scanner like shape with the word nokia accross it. maybe they have made a console. This could be a fake i know but if any of you look at the storys on special reserve and read the one about the card that rare sent to game developers at chrismas the one SR said they though it meant rare going multi-format then you would have seen a present that SR no me could find what it was maybe this nokia one i saw. What do u people think.

The upcoming Nokia set-top box will be equipped with Linux and a 366 MHz Celeron. That's not exactly what is known as a powerful gaming rig, but it's aimed as an all around machine. It probably won't cost as much as a PlayStation2 or Xbox either. Games will only be a secondary function of the set-top box. That's better than no games at all. A Celeron 366 MHz can still pack enough power to run a few cool games. If some sort of 3D hardware acceleration is also included, then the possibilities are not too limited. Otherwise, we'll just see 2D games and low-tech 3D games.

Sony uses Linux for its PlayStation 2 development and has recently released disks so hobbyists in Japan can use Linux as well. In addition, TiVo's digital video recorder uses Linux to drive its menus and interface.

With major competitors such as the PlayStation 2 for games and TiVo's device for home entertainment already finding firm footholds in the market, garnering support among developers is critical to the success of any new format.

While the site has less than a dozen projects signed up, Nokia hopes other companies will want to participate as well, said Jacki DeCoster, spokeswoman for open-source programming consultant CollabNet, which will maintain the site.

"It's a Nokia-sponsored site, but they are absolutely looking for other companies to contribute," she said.

Based on a 366MHz Celeron processor, the Nokia system will not have the graphics power of Sony's PlayStation 2 nor Microsoft's upcoming Xbox, said Nokia's Hägg. But it will be more flexible, she said.
