When you turned on a playstation a theme and symbol came up saying "Sony computer entertainment, etc" but on the PS2 you only get half of this, seeing that was a joy and am i just sentimental in missing it or just a sad get ;-)
I suppose I'm a saddo as well then - When I first got my PS I was amazed with the opening theme and the first game I put in was Formula 1 (The original 96 version) and I was gobsmaked by the opening cg scenes. Nowadays I mostly skip past all that stuff which most of us probably do - poor old developers must put quite a bit of time into the opening scenes and we just skip over them!
The only ones I have looked at recently are Pro Evo which was pretty cool and Crash Bandicoot because you have no choice!

i never saw that PS1 start up screen much as i had a cart at the back to play imports :)
I still miss the "SeeeeeeeeeGaaaaaaaa" that you used to get on the Megadrive games... :(
I like the new PS2 startup screen though, just that minimalist "plink" at the start as Playstation 2 appears on the screen, rather catchy and above all, short.

Hearing it now still sends a tingle down my spine. My most fond memory of that sound is playing Tomb Raider 2 at 2am in the morning, for some reason that sticks out to me the most.
I like *wwwwooossssssshhh* sound you get on PS2 though. :D
