Question. None of this is real, for you utter mongs that are going to reply saying how irritated you are at the change...

Metal Gear Solid 2 has just been pulled from shelves, after a review into the game. Hideo decides that the characters in the game are a bit "nasty", and puts in other cute characters instead.

Now, it's not based in the real world, it's based in "Fluffy Land", and the Metal Gear will destroy all plant life in the land.

You control a bunny, as the main character, the plot, apart from fitting in with those conditions, is pretty much the same, and the gameplay is exactly the same.

Instead of shooting and snapping peoples necks, you have to wave your bunny wand over them, and they fall asleep and become "good" animals. They then run back to their mothers and fathers.

All the characters are animals, and it's a very colourful game.

Do you still buy it?

No logical way. Correct. However there is a very illogical and dark side of my character that revels in the snapping of necks, etc. I'm afraid that this Bunny version might not satisfy these darker urges and I would be forced to hunt out the people who decided on the change and make these urges very clear to them.

I wouldn't buy it. But then I don't plan to buy MGS2 anyway.

I read the OPSM 2 review, and they said some of the cut scenes come in at over 20 minutes!

Plus the fact that it's just not my sort of game. I prefer to be entertained when I play a game, not challenged.

Some people are the other way round, they want a challenge, and want to feel a sense of achievement when they finally beat the end boss or whatever, and that's fine, I have no problems with that.

I find I'm able to get just as immersed in a game if the charaters or settings aren't particularly real.

I found myself completely wrapped up in Oracle of Ages, and that was a Gameboy Colour game. (Maybe this says something about hiding poor quality behind realistic looks?)

So yeah, I'd play "fluffy bunny nasty plant man sleep fest".

And it's sequel.

I'm incredibly irritated at the change!

:-D

I wouldn't buy it, but I wouldn't of anyway. Like VB said, it's too short to warrent it's price and with the thrill of slashing throats and breaking necks gone (c'mon, I bet you anything that was part of the fun for EVERYONE) it really wouldn't justify me spending my money on it. Although it IS gameplay that matters, not graphics.

Well to be honest if i was going to buy MGS2 (which im not) and it changed to the local flora & fauna being destroyed i'd probably still buy it.

Mainly because if the game stayed identical to what it was originally, then graphics wouldn't mean much. And as long as the emotions running through you stay (Tense? Bunnies? ha!) put in the game, I see no logical way way that the change would stop someone.

Reverse the process. Mario 64 was occasionally difficult but it was graphically kiddyish. If the suddenly changed that to an MGS20 style, the same amount of people, if not more, would still buy it. But the thing is, the DIDN'T change it, and it sold just as well and is known as a very very good and respectable game.

To summarise, graphics shouldn't change a gamers enjoyment or want of a game. Just take a look at the cel-shaded Zelda...

Yesss... but it does seem you're forced to. "God, if I just rush to the end now, I'll have it completed by tonight."

It shouldn't have to be a "I paid too much to just go to the exit", it should be a "Christ! What was that? Another bunny?"

Spending as long as you can, wasting time so you feel that you're actually playing a game instead of watching a film... that doesn't sound too much like immersion...

But this topic is about graphics and style, not FMV. :0D
