Today, Konami announced a game that should make waves everywhere in the world...except here. That game is Winning Eleven 6, the new full sequel in Konami TYO's famous soccer series, now and again brought to the west as International Superstar Soccer. Due to hit Japan on April 25, the new edition is to feature an updated league mode, more international teams, and new presentation elements to accompany the beginning of the new J-League season in Japan.
The main Master League mode is to feature 40 teams with up-to-date rosters, as well as all the accompanying logos, uniforms, and the like. Editing and developing players as the league mode progresses is possible by expending development points. International teams number 29, with new additions to teams like the USA appearing, although player stats are accurate only as far as they were in Winning Eleven 5 Final Edition.
On the presentation side of things, commentary is supplied by John Kabila and Tetsuo Nakanishi, while the cover star is Masashi Nakayama, top striker for the Jubilo Iwata club. Since the song's association with sporting events apparently not yet a cliche in Japan, Queen's "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" is set to accompany the opening movie.
Again, the Japanese version of Winning Eleven 6 is to be released for PlayStation 2 on April 25. Look forward to more news concerning its release in the west -- almost certainly in Europe, and hopefully in the United States as well.
I hope Derby County are in it.
