It troubles me slightly that after a slow start, good games are now coming out for the PS2. Since around November 2001 we've had some good releases, the most outstanding of which have been GT3, GTA3 and Devil May Cry.

But it seems to me that these are just games to pass us all over until Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty comes out. They've just been the warm up men before the main act. But MGS2 will get released, and a huge majority of PS2 owners will buy it, safe in the knowledge that they will probably own the best game ever to be released on any console in the history of gaming.

But, then what? Will the rest of the PS2's life (and it's not even middle-aged yet according to most sources) be strewn with second-rate MGS2 clones and other genres aspiring to beat it but just falling short? Or will something as equally ground breaking and above all absorbing and fun to play emerge from the development community?

I think it will. I think by no means has the PS2 got anywhere near its full capabilities with MGS2 and that more great games are in the works.

On the PSX, we mostly thought the original MGS was the bee's knees and would never be surpassed, yet for me, 6 months later when Driver was released, I had another game that took my breath away. 3 months after that, Final Fantasy VIII came out, and I was once again happily immersed in RPG goodliness for months afterwards. It was interrupted now and again by the arrival of TOCA 2 Touring Cars, which also had me absorbed for late night after late night.

Strangely enough, it's happening again in the same order with the PS2. MGS2 followed by Stuntman followed by Final Fantasy X followed by TOCA Race Driver. (The last two look like they'll get released within a few weeks of each other so they could come out the other way around).

There's also Deus Ex, Grandia 2, Alien: Colonial Marines, TimeSplitters 2, Stuntman, Medal of Honor: Frontline, Tomb Raider TNG, F355 Challenge, Tribes 2, Thief 3, Black and White and a host of other games arriving, mostly this year.

Many existing gamers will have played these games already on either PC or Dreamcast, but I for one will be getting Deus Ex and F355 Challenge, Tomb Raider TNG, Black and White, Tribes 2 and Thief 3 for sure out of the above list when they come out.

How I'm ever going to get time to play them all I don't know, but with that little lot and my existing collection of 12 PS2 games plus Final Fantasy IX I've got enough gaming goodness to last me until the PS4 arrives, let alone the PS3.

Add to this the fact that every now and again a game comes out of nowhere, no hype, no reviews, no warning, that literally stuns the gaming community into stupified amazement. In the next 3 to 5 years there's going to be a few of those 'must have' games coming out going by historical trends.

So the PS2 is by no means looking anywhere near its peak, I think that we've only just glimpsed a taste of what's to come, and even our imagination won't be able to cover what's in store over the next 5 years to come.

If many of you remember correctly, the PSone started getting really good quality games about 3 years after its release. I mean there were some good titles before that, but the majority came during the period of 1998-2000. And considering that the PS2 has some fantastic games already and its only 1 and a half years old.

I am really looking forward to all the games on the PS2, ber they original or sequels. This year alone looks very very good for the PS2 gamers and considering there are at least 3-4 years till the PS3 surfaces, we will be treated to some quality gaming

Oh dear lord i dont think the PS2 has peaked yet, you only have to look at the sheer quality of games that are coming out over the next year alone. You dont need me to list them, but the one im really looking forward to is the Getaway, not to mention the new Pro Evo that will be released. But there is so much to look forward to, whether it me new, original games such as the Stuntman, Getaway ect, whether it be sequels to old games that were too superb, as will there sequels or whether it be ports of games from DC and the games that we are getting from Sega dont forget. Plus there are bound to be many games that are coming out for all 3 next gen consoles that will be great.

The futures bright, in my eyes the future is PS2.
