I just recently started playing Smite, a new MOBA game by the developers of Tribes Ascend, HIREZ studios. This game is fun, probably the funnest MOBA game I've played.
The main difference between Smite and other MOBA games is the perspective. The original DOTA was built using the Warcraft 3 game engine, meaning it was played at an RTS perspective. Heroes of Newerth and LOL are also played in this perspective. Smite however, takes a more MMORPG approach, with a WASD and number keys style of gameplay. It is essentially the same type of game, with just a move of the camera.
The characters are also a big appeal to the game. In this game, you play as different ancient gods from different pantheons. There are Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Hindi and Chinese gods to chose from, and, for the most part, these characters are very cool to play and true to the original source when it comes to their powers.
A controversy surrounding the use of Hindu gods arose soon after the release of the game. It is very risky to turn gods that people still take seriously (such as the Hindi and Chinese gods, to some extent) and make them game characters. However, despite this, this game is still worth a play. It is completely free to play, but it is currently in closed beta, so it may be hard to get an account.
