The project board named "Triforce" has recently been named (any resemblence to the Lengend of Zelda...I think so) and is said to allow games to play arcade games on their gamecube (based on gamecube architecture). Apparently, the project has been on the cards since September 2001, but has only just come to light. With the use of the Gameboy Advance or Memory cards (maybe even a new device), Gamedata will available to transfer between the cube and the Coin-ops.
Personally I think this is a very strong trump card on Nintendo's side in the war of the Next Generation consoles.
Force 1 - NINTENDO = In the middle of a major battle against Sony and Microsoft to make their gamecube become the dominant console in the Gameing World. This can only bump up their chances against 2 very strong companies.(Purely Home Based Gaming)
Force 2 - SEGA = Coming to terms with the fact that the Dreamcast did not sell as much as intitially expected, Now have a chance to make it again in the assisted production of the triforce board. Already big players in the arcade world, and there were plans to make dreamcast compatible with sega arcade coin-ops. (The link between Home gaming and arcade).
Force 3 - NAMCO = Kings of the arcade since the start. Great Arcade games such as Soul Calibur, Tekken and Ridge Racer. (Purely Arcade based gaming)
All three companies have their own skills that they can provide to this board, and If all goes well, can change the way we play games.
Previously, Sega have been Nintendo's arch rivals. But know they are actually producing games for Nintendo, and teaming up with Shigsy and Co on the triforce project, I think that nintendo have found a new "Best Friend". They also have experience in online gaming!
There is already a prototype for the board that was shown at the recent AOU 2002. This can be seen at the following address

So only time will tell if Nintendo and their nice new friends will release this revolutionary piece of kit. But first, we have the excitement of May 3rd.
Come on Nintendo, Show the world what you are made of...Quality
