errrrrm i think you'll find turbonutter is right, there mainly all hardware unless you get a PCI then there what we call a win modem and are software based which means they use a bit of CPU which is bad for games as you want the CPU for your game not modem.
I have to say that everyone I've spoke to rates the SupraExpress really well, and mine is great. Quite nippy on a decent connection..
The Supramax is USB and will not give the same performance a SupraExpress will. I use a SupraExpress and for a 56k modem, its excellent.
