In an age when violence, terror and comes as standard, it isn't hard to believe that it's a reality in videogames. I suppose Doom started it all off, the 'blood' from the monsters, although very lame, was quite graphic for its time. But is there actually anything wrong with this?
When asked what would come after Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima replied:
"I will make the game consumers want for the console they desire..." (A la MGS2 for the PS2.)
Hello?! People WANTED Metal Gear Solid 2, and who can blame them, the demo alone is one of the best things on the PS2! You don't make money by selling something people don't want! Supply and Demand, remember? - Ever do Business Studies?!
The demand for more adult games is growing. By adult, I mean Mature, we don't quite want an interactive French Blue movie just yet! The average age range of PS2 owners is between 15 and 25 - you think they'll be content with Parappa the Rapper 6? Jak and Daxter 5? Hell no!
There is a demand for more violent games, whether it's because we're a sadist species, or whether we're sick to the teeth of 'nice' games, I don't know - what I do know, is that quite a few of the more gory games are quite entertaining. Take MGS2 as our first example... It's one hell of a game, it would be with or without the gore, but the gore does add a distinct level of realism and maturity, something that most owners of the game have, and will, welcome with open arms.
Look at State of Emergency, released today - it's mad! Firstly I have to say what an amazing game it is! Sure it isn't as complex as MGS2, and it isn't as vast as GTA3, but it is a beat 'em up after all! The graphics are very cool, and it's a perfect 'pick-up and play' addition to anyones collection, shame about the lack of multi-player! Anyway, the gore - It's phenomenal, blood everywhere! But it isn't just the blood, it's the destruction, the general violence and civil unrest.
You see violent games offer something that the vast majority of the more peaceful games don't - Continuous Heart-Racing Action and Pure Adrenaline Rushes! The action is what keeps you on the end of your seat, it's what makes your hair stand on end, it's addiction ruins your love life! Continuous Action games cover a number of genres, Fighting is the first, and Racing the nest. It's all about quick competition. I know a football match, or a RTS is competition, but it isn't as compact and half as intense!
Back to Gory games... They're what we want, sure, they might not be any sort of alternative to StarFox Adventures, Mario, or Zelda etc, but they're essential to the games industry... why? Because they attract quite an audience. If you're trying to entertain a genocidal mafia boss to save your life, and you give him Jak and daxter, you'll probably be pushing up the daisies before the first level is loaded!
Some games are violent, we don't need another debate about whether they are or not, because we know they are... there's nothing wrong with them, provided people take them for what they are, games! Violent games have dome nothing but boost and contribute immensely to the games industry, and while i'm not a violent person, I welcome them for what they are - for the good of the industry.
Hideous Kojima? Maybe, but the industry is all the better for it! And it's not like you HAVE to be violent, you can sneak around the place... not like State of Emergency... ah... God Bless Rockstar and their new niché!

Just another point on this subject. To all those nerds out there that sit around moaning that computer games are far too voilent and gory and are a bad influence on the youth of today (or sumfing like that). Well us gamers should consider that a huge insult towards our intelligence. I mean, wot the hell do the those fools take us for!?!? We aren't sad psychos that sit around playing computer games by day and then imitating them by night, going around beating old ladies up wiv baseball bats and nickin their money like in GTA3. Us gamers are (on the whole) the most educated of those within today's society. I mean, thanx to my trusty PS2 I now know professionally take on a bunch of terrorists (fanx to games like MGS2 and Max Payne) and my knowledge of cars is soaring sky high (fanx to GT3), amongst other things that is.
So, to any of those grumpy lot out there that wanna moan and groan and say that computer games are the reason for an increase in youth criminal activity, I say to you, COMPLETE AND TOTAL RUBBISH!!! Blame the music industry (lol, joke)
Thank you ladies and gentlemen and goodnight.
(I didn't do Spanish, so if that doesn't make sense - forgive me!)

All true as well.
