Does it make the brain act differently so we suddenly lose all of our gaming talent?
Or is it all in our mind?
I normally walk through a game,no problem. But,if I put on one of my CDs (mainly rap,R’n’B,hiphop and rock) I suddenly begin to lose my talent,my person gets killed over and over again and I lose my way even though I have been to that place loads of times. But if I just listen to the music on the game,I’m better. Is this because the music matches the scenery?
I know that it does, like if you're in a peaceful place, the music is peaceful. That means that this isn't a danger zone so you can relax. But when you're in a danger zone, the music tenses up,sometimes filling you with fear so it makes you more aware of your surroundings, preparing for attack.A good example of this type of music is the Zelda series, whenever you're in a room with a enemy, the music changes as a warning,(that or it's just there to annoy me).
So basicly I'm asking, does the type of music we play a game to affect us in any way to make us miserably useless?
When I play Tekken or Maio Kart or something at a friends house, I'll normally do well with the sound on. Then he'll turn it off and put the hi-fi on instead, wherupon I flounder helplessly.
If the music's off, you're playing the game.
If the music's on, you're in the game.
Of course, if the music is THAT bad then most of the time the gameplay will follow it down the same slippery slope...
The thing is, sometime si get so wrapped up in a game that I lose all awareness of sounds around me. Perfect example was in Perfect Dark earlier (oh the irony!) I was so involved in slaughtering the 8 Dark Sims that I didn't even notice the music until I'd run out of that room and into a little safe area. Then my sense of hearing came flooding back suddenly.
When playing other more laid-back kinda games (ones where you don't have to be on constant alert) I occassionally stick a CD on but that doesn't make any difference.
In Mario World earlier though, the music is very up-beat and that makes me kinda run through the levels at top speed just for the sheer hell of it. But that's only when I'm not really playing properly.
Nice post by the way, put spaces after punctutation though :-)
In Skies of Arcadia, the music played suits the mood perfectly for each battle. And it changes on certain battles if you're winning or losing. I always feel more confident when the music changes to the better, and when it gets to the really dramatic music when I'm losing a battle, it usually makes me more detirmined and I recover.
If I was listening to pop music, or any other kind, I don't think I could do so well. I'd be distracted.
However, that doesn't always work like that. I get better scores on Pokémon Pinball if I play certain CD's I own then when I don't.
