Well I have to disagree. I can always find what I'm looking for. The internet was invaluble to my A's at GCSE. If I hadn't spent hours and hours reading the hundreds of web pages I did, I never would have passed with such high grades, as I didn't have to pay for this service, whis I would have done if I had to but revision guides all the time.
But I love the internet, because of one thing, games. Yes games are what makes the internet worthwhile, well that and Email. Email is useful, because it s instant. But gaming is what I want to talk about. I feel that games keep the internet ticking over. If the internet was to be analysed, I'd say that there are more people using it to play, buy, or find info about games than anything else. Next I think would come shopping, as the internet is the easiest way to shop. No queues, No people and no change. Just you a screen and a lovely piece of plastic.
talking about plastic, I love using internet banking because I can check my balence, pay people, put money in a savings account, all from my own bedroom. I dont have to go to a bank, wait in a long queue with single parent mums with their 4 or 5 kids (that look nothing like each other) shouting at them as they run riot round the bank, while the old women stand ther and look condecendingly upon you because you're only 16. I can save myself so much time and energy by just using the internet.
But that's beside the point. Games are what makes the internet. Could you imagine not being able to download the newest patches for your game? could you imagine having to wait for a PC mag cover disk to get the latest mod for Half Life (of which I personally think there is too many.)?
Well I was thinking about this. If we didn't have the interent then we would never get any information about games, therefore making games less popular with the masses, beacuse you would have to pay for computer magazines every month to find out the latest news! People would get bored and find something else to amuse them. and if you aren't getting the information, then nobody's ever going to find out about what's going on, because there aren't many games advertised on TV now are there?
But the internet also has another feature. Multiplayer. Yes the wonderful thing that allows you play people from around the world and show off you experience of the game you've been playing in single player. The interner takes games from being a single person thing to being a group activity. I have lots of friends, but none of them have PC's so I can't play against them, and boy does it get boring just player 1 player games all the time. The internet, though, gives me the freedom to experience playing games with other players and prove to myself that I am good at the game, in fact that I'm better than alot of other people. Multiplayer, on the internet, gives you something to work for. In games like Rainbow 6 (one of my fav multiplayer games) you keep going back and playing the 1 player part of the game, in order to familiarise yourself with the map, so you can find the best places for sniping and best places to remain concealed and use your frags and flashbangs to kill the other players.
SO is the internet useless? I would say no, it isnt. There are so many benefits from using the "information highway" You can get the information you want for free, (if you know where to look that is), You can shop, manage your finances and most of all you can prove to yourself that you are a brilliant gamer, when you kill the hundreds of online enemies.
AND Finally most importantly, if I didnt have the internet, then I would have never met such a wide variety of characters on this brilliant web site.
seeya, and happy surfing,

:)
I've just figured out that my fingers go to directly to the keys I need when I don't look at them, but I don't know I am going directly to them.
Scaaaaary :)
Wait a minute, that was my wife...damn...
I agree that games and e-mailing are 2 top features of the net, and ones I regularly use. They're also my 2 favourite things to do! The net's also usefull for research and revision, and it helped me with my GCSE's and has always helped my coursework.
But aside from those factors and chat, I see no other real use for it. Well, shopping is quite good, as the prices are better! But you just become fat, sad and lazy if you do ALL your shopping from the net! You need to go out!!
