'Rings movie company buys film rights to PlayStation2 'riot' game
New Line Cinema has bought the film rights to the controversial computer game State Of Emergency.
The company was also behind the cinema blockbuster Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring.
State Of Emergency is an 18-rated game which is set in a riot-torn city in the near future.
The game was developed by Dundee-based firm VIS Entertainment, and is launched in Europe tomorrow.
New Line Cinema will produce the movie in association with Zide/Perry Entertainment.
Toby Emmerich, New Line's president of production, said: "State of Emergency is an action franchise waiting to happen.
To be able to create a franchisable action movie that appeals to young audiences based on a highly successful video game is something we've been looking for and State of Emergency is a perfect fit."
