How come that the risk of bike tyres getting pubctures is higher when they are new, and decreases with age?
You would have thought it would be the other way around, but no. My 2 week old, £110 motorcycle tyre has a nail in it.

A simple solution: try riding your bike on its rim.
I think it could be because the treads of the tyre are deeper at the early days and wear down with use. Because they are deeper it is easier for sharp objects to get into them.
Although when the tyre gets older there is more of a risk of it wearing to thin and blowing or being illegal to drive on.
