I was in an Electronics Boutique shop yesterday, and the clerks there really talk a load of rubbish.

Two guys were playing on the X-Box and one of the clerks went up to them and asked how they like it. They said yes it was good, but they were more interested playing the 2 player Blood Wake game. He then said about the X-Box being an much more adult oriented console than the PS2. He quoted 2 PS2 games "Rayman" and "Woody Wood Pecker".

Has this clerk ever heard of a game called GTA3, maybe even SOE. Even MGS2 and Silent Hill 2 are adult games. I think they were all Pro X-Box, wanting to make a sale as the X-Box is £300 while PS2 is £200. He kept on at them about the £10 pre-order and that if you do pre-order you get vouchers to spend at EB.

Can shop clerks actually be reliable especially to the mother whos looking for a console for her son/daughter. Or the people that havent got a clue. Will the clerks try to hype the more expensive console, or the console that isnt selling aswell.

As anyone heard or experienced any shop clerks that talk out of there rear end ?

Oops, just spotted a mistake in my last line, should've been GameCube, not XBox.

My bad.

They'll usually be about £5.00 per game more expensive on PS2

Maybe at your local mate, certainly not at mine. In fact, everything is usually £5 cheaper than EB/Game. :)

I know of someone who works in a EB and they've been told that the personal target is to secure 1 pre-order a day for the X-Box. They're gonna try to sell you so that they hit their target aren't they? Facts never really enters the equasion.

Only a couple of weeks ago, a chap was playing Amped and the Sales Assistant was trying to sell him the XBox, to which the customer replied "I'm waiting for a GameCube" to which the Sales Assistant used the cliched "Nintendo do develop some good games, but they all look kiddy..." line.

It's business. Wait until Game/EB start taking pre-orders for the XBox, they'll be pushing that just as much as they did with the consoles that came before it.

Well, they do all buy Nintendo...

(Sorry, couldn't help that one!)

I know, you'd think they'd know all about it... but somehow EB seem to have a knack of finding the only kids (well, teenagers) in the land that know sweet FA about gaming - it's uncanny!

Game have the older people, but they generally tend to be like me (god help them) in that they are real enthusiasts.

You can't beat your local shop for local gamers. Forgive my anti-SR heresy but it has to be said, independants rock. They'll always be skint, they'll always be small, they'll always be downtrodden, but I think the publishers like them because they don't charge a fortune to carry stock, the gamers like them because they are local and there's always someone in there who knows their stuff.

Since when have kids been the ones who can't tell console from courgettes? I always thought it was the older guys who were 'out of touch'... (ageing Wookiee notwithstanding)

Simple truth is, you have to be a moron to end up working in a shop like that for any serious amount of time. That's why they know naff all about the games.

I always buy in Game when I don't purchase from SR.

Considering that Game and EB are one and the same company, the difference is startling. I don't know if it's just my local stores, but EB always seem to employ spotty schoolkids (apologies to our younger readers!) who couldn't tell a console from a courgette.

In game, they always seem to have older people who really know their stuff.

Yeah i went into EB's a few months ago to buy Deus Ex, and the stupid git didn't know what i was on about. The same thing happened when i tried to buy Operation Flashpoint. Now i go elsewhere to buy games, uinless EB's is the only option.
