Being a non-magazine buyer now, I never know about what's coming out on the PS2 but for some reason am fully up-to-date with the new PC titles being launched.

GTA3 I had no idea this was coming, and then when it came out and I saw pictures of it and heard people talking about it I just had to get it and it was absolutely amazing.

Now I was just casually looking around the site and a banner for STATE OF EMERGENCY took my eye. From the look of it it looks great fun.

Where do these games come from?! And if SOE is any good why do I never hear of them until they are released?

I'm starting to like this method of being suprised. With GTA3 nearing completion I was worrying whether I'd use this PS2 as much as I should with all my moneys worth. This game looks like it may keep my PS2 from getting dusty for a long time longer.

So here's the question do you prefer anticipating a game over a long long time or do you prefer being suprised? At moment I'd say suprised you don't get your hopes up at all.

Well done Rockstar AGAIN.

To be honest SOE has done very little to impress me at the minute so i wont be getting it until you lot have tried and tested it. (a thinking mans game. :D)

But it does seem that hyped games are becoming less and less as good as the hype that surrounds them. As been said most of the games with no hype or little seem to be the best. GTA 3 is an example too, also though Pro Evo got little in hype (apart from me shouting on the site about it months before release) and look at that.

Have you ever thought though that the games that are hyped, are hyped because the developers are too big headed and feel that the game they have made is good, rather than just for to gain all the pre-orders. Maybe some of them dont really know what the public want anymore and what they class as a good game, we dont. Worth thinking about me thinks.

Dont get your hopes up tooo high for SOE.

Reviews for it seem to be very average, and it definitely doesnt come anywhere close to being a GTA3 beater.

Hype is a very dangerous thing. I'm beginning to think developers just use Hype to sell the game and spend very little time on improving the game...As pointed out by Triple_H, Smackdown:JBI was a prime example of this.

Is it getting to the situation now where we are expecting the "unknown" games to be good, and the "hyped" games to be crap? Maybe to an extent, but we can all do our research to make sure we get a fair deal.

Our expectation levels are way out of hand.

I think there are definetely certain advantages to now know whats going on in the gaming world and what games are coming out etc...But you need to see if the game is good or not dont ya? I mean I wouldnt just buy a game because my mates told me its good. I would have to at least have a go at it myself..

As far as hyped games go, I dont think that hyping the game will make it much better. If the game lives up to its expectations then its fair enough, but what if the game flops? I mean look at things like Smackdown JBI-there was just so much hype surrounding the game that you were almost made to think its going to be the best thing ever. But instead it was pretty disappointing....So dont trust the hype..Trust your soul and magazines of course....Not all the time but you know...

Its all about how hyped the game is really, obviously the more hyped a game is the more you know about it.

Myself, i prefer games not to be hyped too much, so when they are released its a great surprise to play it when its so good. I think games like MGS2 are too over hyped, no doubt it will be good, but with all the hype arounf it i can see it being less than some people expected.

The problem with hype (and this refers to everything) is that people will have their hopes built up and will immediately be disappointed. So when a game comes along people's expectation of it are low, so if it is actually any good people are surprised.

I have said this before but sometimes it is the games that spring up from nowhere that tend to be better than the games that seem to be hyped up for ages.
