Which is better, single player games or multiplayer? Personally I like to be absorbed in my games, so RPG's are my cup of broth, and multiplayer RPG's on the web don't seem that much different from single player, although your opponents AI is souped a bit. Take Quake, (I know it's not an RPG, just using it as an example), where you run around shooting things. The network mode is just as good as 1P mode, but it's still just 1P on hard level, you are still limited to what you can do with your character by the constraints imposed by programmers.
Is there any difference between racing "human" opponents or computer controlled cars? In both cases you are battling against "real-time" humans or the programmers' skill, who, after all, is another human, just not there while you are playing the game.
Multiplayer for me is fine when you have your mates around for a footie bash or a bit of GT, but overall I much prefer my gaming solitude for the RPG's. But then that's just me.

I think the best thing is the unpredictability of humans. I mean, when a computer finds you, he will turn towards you and shoot. When a human finds you, he will not just turn towards you, but jump around all over the place, strafe towards you, and try and cut off your head with a chainsaw.
The only game that really imitates human life properly is unreal tournament.

Depends on the game. I would say RPG's make single player games good(only exception to the rule is the Mana RPGS's), whereas with driving games and definately shoot em-ups, the multiplayer element is defintely better, even though I would say that single player games in these genres are still good. i would say Fantasymeister that it depends on the genre of the game that determines if it is good in 1P or in 2P.
