"How do you know when your laser's busted?"

Hi, recently ive been having a few problems with the ps2 reading disks. I have a merga memory 16, and think it might be the cause as often if i play without using the silly boot disc thing the memory card comes with they seem to start fine.

Does anyone have any easy ways of telling if my ps2's laser if going or gone? just in case it is the laser, and not the annoyign memory card
(which was a con as they dont say u need the disc on the packaging)

Due to the memory card shortage, i cant find an official one to transfer my game saves too, otherwise i would or use it as a backup device

I think if your laser had gone, you wouldn't be able to play *any* discs at all.
