I have come up with a theory.

O...K! My theory is this:
The game is now called the Wind Waker, which brings back memories of the Wind Fish. Digging up my old Zelda GBC cart, i played the end again and the Wind Fish hints that Link will return t the dream world. The cartoony looks could pass off as a dream world and Link has to complete his quest (find his sister instead of wake the wind fish) to wake up. As he does, he wakes up in the Spaceworld 2000 visuals we all know and love.
I know it's a long shot, i know it's unlikely BUT aren't all the screenshots so far of the same area? And didn't Shigsy promise to bring back the old visuals??

i was going to slagg you stoopid off for being a stoopid newbie with a stoopid idea, then you mentioned Link's Awakening, the best handheld game ever. (you should have both versions, like me, then you will be come a real jedi master.)
