Hello, my name is Randall Higgins, I am the spokesman for the National Institute of Technology Wary Intellectual Talkers, or NITWIT for short. We are a non-profit organization spreading the words of video game haters far and wide.

I have had many articles printed in the Daily Mail, and am a keen speaker on where the youth of today is going wrong.
Today I am going to talk to you about the dangers of so called video games, and the terrible effects they are having on the nation’s youth.
What follows is an extract from my forth-coming book entitled ‘Burn Video-Games not Books’:

******************************

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome

Video gamers risk more than virtual injury when they play for prolonged periods
A 15-year-old British boy developed what is known as hand-arm vibration syndrome, or HAVS, from the vibration feature on his video game control. Many newer hand held game controls have this feature, which vibrates or "rumbles" in accordance with events on the screen, creating a more realistic effect.
The extended use of vibrating game controls could put them at risk for the same injury experienced by operators of power tools like jackhammers or chainsaws.
The syndrome results from the destruction of the small vessels that supply blood to the hand. Symptoms include poor circulation, numbness, and increased sensitivity to heat and cold.

I did some research of my own into the matter, and found that most children play video games for up to 22 hours a day. While I acknowledge that this exceeds the manufacturer's recommendations, it is a major problem. 70 percent of children now suffer from mild forms of HAVS, leading to many hot drinks being spilt, resulting in scalds or burns.

Nintendonitis

Experts say that this unusual side-effect of extensive game play sounds conceivable.
I haven't played these games, but I've felt the vibrations and they're pretty forceful,
Mechanical damage to fingers or the palm have been reported and then there's sort of a tendonitis, like a tennis elbow, that people have described. This video game associated tendonitis has been described by some as "Nintendonitis."
Experts are also concerned that the full physical consequences of video game playing have not yet been seen.
I think as kids are spending considerable amounts of time playing these games that we are going to see a lot of the injury or illness that people have seen in industry with a lot of the different types of repetitive use syndrome.

Hand injuries even prompted Nintendo to provide protective gloves for "Mario Party" video game users.
Nintendo had received numerous complaints that children unexpectedly sustained hand wounds while playing certain segments of this video game. The hand injuries included burns, lacerations, punctures, cuts, bleeding, tearing and blistering of skin.
This video game features numerous mini-games, many of which present a risk of hand injuries. In those game segments, children are encouraged to use all their might to rapidly rotate the joystick to succeed at various virtual tasks.

Video games not only cause minor injuries, sometimes they can be fatal.

Whilst playing an online game called “Half-Life”, a game that encourages the player to kill their opponents, a man in Thailand stabbed his real life opponent to death when he was beaten in the game.
So next time you are playing evil killing games at an ‘Internet café’ watch out for the oddball loner wearing a trench coat and carrying a sports bag (possibly containing a BB gun or martial arts weapon), who may wish to fight dirty in real life if he loses at his precious game.

Another man, also from Thailand, spent over 28 hours non-stop playing “Half-Life”, he promptly collapsed and died.
There have been several other cases of this so called “Addictive Game Syndrome”, where gamers get so engrossed in a game that they forget to eat or drink, so a zombie like state or even death is imminent.
As video games become even more addictive I can see many thousands of these cases arising soon.

Handheld games machines like the “Gameboy” have caused many traffic accidents, as gamers are so addicted to video games that they drive cars whilst playing, or walk into the road, forgetting the ‘Green Cross Code’.

As gamers get more competitive, I can see many cases of enraged gamers strangling their loved ones with the control pad wires, or use the wires as tripwires.
The handle on the new ‘Gamecube’ system only increases the chances of a mad gamer who’s played too much “Doom” or “Carmageddon” hitting you over the head with it.

With many cases of video game related epilepsy around, we know see many cases of eye strain becoming so intense that many peoples eyeballs have burst whilst playing.

All video games involve guns, killing and blood, and as a result, games are rotting the minds of the nations youth, like fizzy drinks have rotted their teeth.
Many young children are being trained as killers on these electronic games.
Games are evil.
Don’t play these wretched video games, read a book, paint a picture or write poetry.

Dear Mr.Higgins,

I read your article with great interest, and I have to say I am in total agreement with you.

These television interactive games are destroying the minds of today's youth. They should all be banned immediately.

I'm sure you will be pleased to know that I will be writing a "strongly worded" letter to my local MP.

Bring back National Service - that's what I say!

Yours sincerely,

Maurice Micklewhite
President of The Greenfield Bowling Club.
