But why? Am i a nutter? (probably, but that isn't the point) Do I have a very weird sense of what's good and what isn't? No. The reason is that a lot of the "games" released are a little bit more than simple minded "games".
A game is something fun, time consuming, and something which you can play one afternoon, then put it back in a cupboard for a while. The same applies to the 5 games mentioned earlier.
But why no Metal Gear? Final Fantasy?
I'll tell you.
These "games", and many more, are more than just "games".
They are too big. Too involving. Too epic. You can't put them down after an afternoon. They are fun, but in a very different way.
No, these "games" aren't "games". I don't know what the term is to describe them. But Final fantasy, Metal gear, GTA, even games like Tekken and Jak & Daxter are more than "games".
You become far too involved and attatched to them. When I was playing FF7, and Aeris died, I got that really weird feeling of emptiness. The feeling where you feel as if you have had an operation and the doctor forgot to dive you back your bladder, or something like that. My friend was actually sick when Aeris died, and had to get me to play through until it got past the death part.
proof of how "Games" are no longer "games". Nearly all games have involving storylines. Sometimes you become addicted to genuine games because they're fun. That's OK. But some other "games" have evolved into something which is completely opposite to a simple "game".
So, the Future of "Gaming"? Probably that by the end of 2003, only 1 out of every 10 'product' for each console will be a genuine game.
