Hi,

Can anyone remember the manual workaround fix for the 0800B0100 Windows update error?

The official M$ fixes don't work - the Mr Fixit automated fix and the System Update Readiness tool all fail.

I have done a manual fix before including deleting the Software Distribution folder, but there's more to it than that and I can't find it on Google.

Thanks,

Neil

EDIT: I missed your reply to me the first time.

Solution 3 (which I mentioned looked promising for what you are after) performs renames on:

SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
SoftwareDistribution\Download
system32\catroot2

And as I mentioned it also gives many more things a kick so looks like a good bet.

Glad to hear you got things sorted.

I found possible solutions too, but I'm referring to the solution that specifically includes deleting the Software Distribution folder and additional steps in Windows 7. That is what I couldn't track down again.

I saw it initially Hmmm and pondered .... and searched ... and found loads of answers and possible solutions including the one you posted. If I can find it and I'm not the one with the exact problem, then others could find it too ;¬)

Many thanks.

As there were initially no responses, I did a 'repair install' and did the upgrade option within setup, which did the trick.

I'll have a look at that post for future reference.

This Microsoft Post in answer to the question:
I cannot fix the 0800B0100 Windows Update error seems to have done the trick - try running through all the offered Windows Update solutions. The 3rd solution offered seems to give many 'update' components a kick!

If that fails searching that forum for your error shows a number of other results.
