i want to discuss arnie schwarzenneger (i think thats how its spelt). has he gone too far? when did he stop being original (if ever)? and why is he making so many sequels? my guess is that 1. he wants to prove he can still kick butt along with the rest of them 2. the money is always right and 3. hes not willing to let go of his hard-man image. but thats just my opinion.
im not sure if anyone knows this yet but arnie has quite a few sequels lined up at the moment such as true lies 2, total recall 2, and let not forget terminator 3. i think this is kind of ridiculous, i mean total recall was made about 20 yrs ago and while it was a good film, im not sure if it warrants a sequel. true lies was good but im not sure if it would be received as well now as it was before sept 11 (planes and buildings were involved) and it wont be the same now cos his wife (jamie lee curtis) knows that hes a secret agent now. my main complaint with terminator 3 is that while it may be feasible to use him as a robot again, what explanation are they going to use to explain why they made a robot that has aged by about 10 yrs or so, why would skynet make a wrinkly robot? unless of course they plan to use him to infiltrate a group of oap rebel members.
i recently read a review with sylvester stallone and also one with arnie and the difference between them is that stallone admitted that he had made a few turkeys in his time and that makin rocky 5 was a mistake, whereas arnie never believed that he'd made a bad film and then began to plug his string of sequels. although saying that, stallone still went on to make d'tox which really sucks
(at a cinema near you now).
the next film that arnie's making is not, however, a sequel but a highly implausible movie about a firefighter who descends upon the jungles of colombia in order to hunt down a group of terrorists who killed his family. i cant decide whether it sounds like a film worth watchin (cos its bound to have a lot of action) or whether it just sounds like a really dodgy film with a dodgy script. ill let you all decide.
dont get me wrong though, while i may be sayin all this, im not sayin that i dont like some of arnies films (how could i not like terminator 1 + 2 and predator) i am just sick of actors goin for the sequel to a film cos the money is right rather than because the script is good. eg. eddy murphy - beverly hills cop 1,2,3 (3 was a terrible film). i mean what has arnie lined up next, hercules in new york 2 (his first film). come on arnie, prove yourself as a good actor and not a moneygrabber, you owe it to us, or we'll not be back.
