A sequel to Luc Besson's 1995 classic is rumored to be in the works, It follows Mathilda as she erm, well the info is near minimum at the moment but it focuses on her as she becomes a hit-woman. Luc Besson has agreed to write the script as long as Natalie Portman is on board, unfortunatly it's unlikely he will direct the film as it's been passed onto some asian guy called "Jonny to", I've never heard of him either, I looked at the films he's made over on IMDB.com and haven't heard of a single one :-(

I guess this is the greatest news I've heard in a long time and just hope he doesn't spoil the original which i belive a sequel is possible of doing. He somehow wants Jean Reno to make a return which is impossible really because he had 20+ grenades strapped to his chest and pulled the pin when he was down, hmmm

Still unofficially confirmed and a real shame Luc Besson isn't directing it but Leon 2 is heading our way, I just hope it doesn't touch the routes of the original.

Yeah I was about to say he'll be used in flashbacks if he's in it

Was the film really made in 95? I thought it was a lot older than that

To be honest I've never got around to seeing it, but I have seen the end and thought it was excellent. I'll probably buy it on DVD

Well this sounds ridiculous if you ask me.

Leon was a great film on it's own and the ending was great. Leon died so calling the sequel anything to do with Leon would be rather stupid.

If Jean Reno is in it then it'd have to be as a memory and I can't see that working too well.

I bet it doesn't even happen.

Maybe he'll come back as a memory, like in Star Wars, he dies but helps her out, but thats stupid.
I think a Sequel would ruin it, this is one of my favourite films, and I hate sequels, probably won't watch it.

Excellent Tarratman. I would be against this film on the grounds that it won't be as good without Besson...but the possibility of a wet/sweaty Portman makes up for it.

I don't think there should be a sequel. I loved the first one, but part of what I loved about it was that it was totally self contained. It had a very definate ending and Leon sacrificed himself in order to save Mathilda - in more than one way. At the end we see her returning to school, willing to give a "normal" life a second chance.

Bringing back Jean Reno is ridiculous, but I think making Mathilda become an assassin is equally stupid and would ruin my perception of the first film.

On the flip side Natalie Portman is fit and would look sweet parading about with guns, she'd no doubt get sweaty and/or wet at some point thus making the film worth watching.

I swear I saw Jean Reno on a plane on monday.

Thats if he was wearing a big comedy grey wig and beard.

Good news though.
