and well BT has been a bit cack so i'm thinking of changing, i want a dial up at the mo as i will be moving at some point.
whats the pros and cons of your isp
BT internet pros and cons are:
Pros
It's £15 a month and is free phone
Cons
Believe me there isn't enough space here :)
+ I didn't know you could get 'broadband' with a lower speed connection.....cool option.
Does freeserve get probs connecting and does it cut off after 20mins or so?
i'm used to slow as i'm on BT but i really want something better :(
From 6.99 per month which gives you a cable modem at 64kbps which is obviously on permanently but if you don't have ntl around your area you should have a similar company.
c.b.
PROs:
24/7 access for £7.99 a month
Stable connection
4 hour cut-off, barring accidental disconnects
Fast
Can get 7.5kbps from France (yey)
Usually connects first time.
15 minute idle limit
CONs:
They suspend your account until about 23:40 if you use it more than 8 hours since 23:40 the previous night (I'm going to have words with them about this)
Not "always-on"
Can get a bit congested fron 6-7pm
I think that's about it...
PROS:
£6.99 a month with no phone bills :o).
Little bit of Free Web Space.
CONS:
Crap.
Slow.
Crap.
Slow.
Cut off's.
... should I go on???
Freeola Dial-up:
PROS:
Reliable
(after a first attempt) - always conncts
Cheap - 1p per minute at weekends.
Good Support.
Extra Services Free.
- Domain Hosting.
- unlimited Web Space, E-mail Addresses
- Web Site features, PHP, CGI etc..
CONS:
No Monthy pay scheme yet.
No MySQL for WEb Space.
Doesn't always accept my first attempt to login. Username and password arn't accepted for some reason.
OVERAL:
Freeola are great, but I would prefer a monthly pay scheme sooner rather than later.
PROS:
always online (i've been kicked off about 3 times in 4months)
no dial-up connection, so your online when your pc logs on (as long as the modems switched on)
very, very fast internet (suprisingly) I find a difference when downloading LOADS of things, if you open a small page, it doesn't make much differenc wether your using a 56k or a 512k
if you open a huge flash/code encripted page with loads of moving images and pop ups you don't notice much loss of speed, with a 56k it can take a while for your pc to think about it.
games: ping? playing online is just as fast as playing offline (thats with 20+ people)
you'll be able to hook your PS2/XBox/GC up if/when you get one.
CONS:
sadly you have to pay for it, but it's completly worth it!
£26 a month (modem rental inclusive)
(£50 installation £26 Network card 1/2 price before 31st March aparently)
but I had a dedicated phone line before broadband so I was only paying £7 less and for the extra speed it's definatly worth it.
*hugs his modem*
