As it happens, I don't have a Playstation 2, I (well, my housemate) have/has a GameCube. I have no problem with this either - Nintendo invariably treat its customers to tonnes of blockbuster exclusives throughout the course of a consoles life, as well as the excellent games from third-party publishers that already exist on the system.
I might also buy an Xbox. Microsoft are clearly planning to shower their customers with free games and expensive toys in an attempt to woo people to buy their system. Quite frankly, I like the look of an Xbox with 4 top games for under £200. The forthcoming release schedule looks as good as on other systems, Xbox Live will plug nicely into my broadband system, I am well tempted.
So what is it with all the armies of invading fanboys screeching about how their console is the only choice and anyone who chooses another console is quite clearly a loser. I mean, what the fook? What on Earth made them stop and decide "I'm going to write a post defending accusations no-one's made about the console I've bought, and launch some unprovoked attacks on people who buy alternative consoles and their personal hygeine standards". Well obviously, it is because they are so content with their choice of console, they feel it necessary to deride people who choose other consoles.
Actually, it isn't. The need to deride others is a negative emotion, born from insecurity with ones current position. In exactly the same way, those that shout loudest in an argument are often the least sure about what they're saying. One does not launch attacks on ones neighbours because all is right with the world - you don't get Buddhist monks, in the midst of meditation, suddenly jump up and start throwing darts at images of Jesus.
In actual fact, the armies of fanboys have a different agenda - trolling. Trolling, for those who don't know, is deliberately posting inflammatory/insulting material in the hope of provoking a negative response. They get a kick out of aggravating other people and the arguments that follow. You can often spot a troll from attempts to nail down its argument - met by the troll dodging the original issue and retaliating with mindless insults. Trolls aren't in the business of debate, as it's possible to lose a debate. Trolls only want to see the argument carry on as long as possible, and will insult, ignore counter-points and behave as irrationally as is required to meet that end. The only way to end a conversation with a troll is to agree with it.
So the conclusion is - never argue with a troll. I propose a policy on these forums whereby if a troll creates a post, we all agree unconditionally with what they say. If someone posts "PS2 GAMES ARE CHEAP AND GAMECUBES ARE FOR KIDDIES!!!!11" we all respond along the lines of "Yes, you're right!" and "I'd never seen it like that before - thankyou!" Failing that, get the SR forums to ban trolls and appoint user moderators who have itchy trigger fingers.
And finally, if you are someone who is thinking about console trolling - remember that not only do you make yourself sound insecure with your own console, everyone will think you're a d*ck too.
> Well go ahead any buy one then. Nobody is stopping you.
General protocol is
1. read post
2. write reply
Your approach is unconventional but has spectacular results!
