She's on the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" soundtrack and the "Down from The Mountain" concert documentary.
She has been described as Bluegrass/Roots, but that doesn't come close to capturing the absolute beauty of this album.
Imagine 1 woman and a guitar, although sometimes with sparse backing from a cello or piano.
I don't know what to compare her to...nothing at all like the Tori Amos/Alannis Morrisette's of this world.
This music is coming from somewhere else entirely.
"Whiskey Girl" is one of the best songs I've heard ever.
Just her voice, a piano and acoustic guitar.
Devastatingly simple and poignant.
She plays what I guess is Bluegrass music, with a banjo accompanying sometimes. Unique, melancholic, uplifting...why the hell isn't this woman recognised more?
I've never heard of her before I bought "Down from The Mountain".
"Down from..." is when the artists from the "Oh Brother" soundtrack performed the songs live in Memphis.
Just old fashioned music, no amps, no backing singers.
Just the music from another era being played to people more used to MTV and empty songs from corporate dancing bears.
Please, if you love music and want something else, go get this album, or at least download "Whiskey Girl" or "One Morning"
Stunning.
Excellent, Yearlings sounds like Haflings. Superb. Let's call the pixies.
Go on,download "Whiskey Woman" you ponce
Sounds a bit too Middle-Earth to me, oh beardy one.
