You know you've been playing too many games when you start dreaming about them. Or maybe you've just not been playing enough...

Ever had that dream where you're one of the blocks in a cosmic game of Tetris, except that it's actually YOU who's making you rotate and move? I have. What about the Marble Madness dream? It's similar to the SpinDizzy dream. That one's a corker. As a kid, I used to have Klax dreams on a nightly basis. And these days? It's Fantavision all the way. Beautiful chains of slo-mo fireaworks bursting into my mind over the Land of Nod. Thankfully, those freaky kids that appear in the game between levels have yet to make it over to my subconscious slumbering mind. That could be scary. I'm sure Rez will be making a premiere on the dreamscreen soon. I can feel it in me waters (or something).

Why is it that it's always the abstract unrealistic games which tend to make it into my dreams? Am I alone in this phenomena, or do all the other obsessed gamers out there have dreams about being Lara (I don't want to know...) or Snake. Perhaps even more obscure would be dreaming about being the stylised unrealistic characters, Mario or Sonic for example. Surely there's some psychology students out there who could put together a reasonable PhD thesis on the twisty, turny workings of my mind....

Perhaps the only non-abstract game to make it into my (remembered) dreams is Wipeout. There's something wonderfully hypnotic about gliding smoothly through the jumps, turns, chicanes and loops that has a dreaminess about it that's completely divorced from the reality of the ludicrously fast on-screen antics. Mind you, that was during university years, when Wipeout 2097 was singularly responsible for more missed lectures than anything else (including hangovers).

Tell me I'm not psychotic.

Please?

No offence taken duder. Boredom at work tends to make me wax lyrical. I'm sufferring gaming withdrawal at the moment (left consoles at home while I'm working abroad for a couple of months) , which I'm sure is influencing the dreams too.

I think on the whole gamers are dreamers. We want to explore strange worlds and discover special secrets.
I always dream about games, usually the night before the release date.
