The usual treatment for any player who crosses the line is a fine, usually a week or two. Where players go without being payed for the duration of that time.
I think the average player earns around £20k (basic) a week, which is more than many people earn in a whole year!! So with earnings of around £1m or more, is loosing a weeks' wages really gunna effect them???
Recently, there have been a lot of the younger players getting into trouble with their managers, after nights out and early mornings at bars and clubs. Including the likes of Chelsea's John Terry and Jody Morris. When they return to their clubs, they get the usual earfull from the manager and chairman, and then recieve a fine, usually 2 weeks long. This may effect them, and help them to stop it, as they're still young and may be earning only something like £500 a week. So fines should work for younger players with smaller earnings.
But what about older, more experienced players?? They've been around for a lot longer, are probably earning a lot more, and probably have at least £5m stored away safely n their bank. So do fines really effect them??? Even a 4 week fine for a player on £35k a week may not mean that much to them, apart from the fact that they won't quite be getting their full £3.5m this year. They should be old enough to know how to behave anyway, and it's not like any 'small' money losses would hurt them! They'd be laughing back in the manager's face! So maybe a new punishment treatment is needed for older players??
Players recieve a one match ban for collecting 5 yellow cards, and can get up to 3 games of susspension for one straight red card. Maybe a susspension for mis-behaving players would be a better idea, rather than just a fine?? It'd show the how the manager feels, something like 'if they don't want to behave like proffesionals then they don't get to be with the proffesionals!' And they could be sent to play in the reserves for a week or two, during the duration of their fine.
No player likes being left in the reserves, as you may know from watching Dream Team on Sky One. Money means a lot to a younger player, so a fine would be fair for them. And you can't go too far with the older proffesionals, or they'll go too far and go AWOL, or request a transfer!
So I think that fines should be given to youngsters, and the older-fools should be forced to experience reserve team football, along with the fine. What do you think???
And if young players don't behave properly, and no player learns from simple fines, how is their international team manager gunna think they're ready for the World Cup???
But wouldn't it be funny if you saw the likes of Beardsley, Beasant and Ogrizovic out on the town together, lol!! The Golden Oldies!
