But what really annoys me is this: people's amazing ability to "forget" bad things that have happened to their console, and yet point of flaws in the competition.
Let me give you some examples:
1) "but the Xbox's really killer is the price- who's gonna spend £300 on a console??"
So, remind me. How much was the original PSX at launch? How much was the PS2 at launch? And they were, like, soooo unpopular hey!
2) "Microsoft have no experience of the market"
It's nice how you forget that Sony actually came into the market almost blind 6 years ago. Ok, so you make the fairly valid point that Sony helped Ninty with their console hopes.
However, you still seem to be ignorant of all of MS's hard work. They have used the lessons learned with past console, and put them into practice. In fact, they seem to have copied sony's original PSX strategy- give dev kits away, buy some 2nd parties, have great marketting. And what's wrong with that.
3) [the big one] "The Xbox launch is poo"
Now this is ineresting. Firstly because half of the people who have said this have never played an Xbox! Amazing insight!
However, to those who have played the games and were still disappointed, remember 2 things. Firstly, the PS2 launch was FAR from stellar. Jaggies, sequals, and no real classic AAA titles to boast. Meanwhile the Xbox does have one or 2 games that will stand out to the casual gamer. In my mind, Halo is the game of the year- and we're not even far into it!
Secondly, I find it amazing how websites like IGN used to have a new oddworld article EVERY day, about Munche's oddysee, but when the game went Xbox exclusive they suddenly started saying "It's not that big a deal- we have MGS2". Vey narrowminded.
Anyway, I think you get my point by now. If not, let me sum up:
The Xbox is not rubbish. It's not necissarily better or worse than any other current console, and MS have done a good job with it. It has good games, whether you like it or not. And for any fault you can find with the Xbox, I can find the a fault with the PS2.

Of those neutrals or anti-Xbox people that have actually managed to play an Xbox, most posts I've seen on here seem to indicate... not so much 'disappointment', but a bit of a let-down.
On the other hand, those who have bee neutral or anti-PS2 have, after playing, been pretty impressed.
Of course these forums aren't exactly a broad cross-section of the public, but it's an interesting point... I think!
Firstly, I was amazed by its size. I knew the X-box was big, but not THAT big!
Anyway, the controller I feel has been wrongly criticised. Fits quite nicely into my hand but i was quite unfamilar with the button set-up and it could take a while getting used to it. The start and select buttons seem to be in a very stupid place.
I only got the chance to play on Project Gotham racing. I must say it felt very very slow. Over the last few weeks I have been playing GT3 again and zooming around at 300Kmh on most tracks. Playing PGR is just too boring and too slow. Definitly off my list if I get an X-box at launch.
Didnt really have too many "interactive Demo's" on the disc, really wanted to play Halo but it was only the "uninteractive demo".
Nothing special really is it?
Yes there are some good games, but I can't see enough to justify the purchase. Not that appeal to me.
Mind you, the PS2 was out for a year before I could count a couple of titles that really appealed to me.
It depends what kind of games you prefer. I like adventure/platform games, and as I can only afford one console it would be an act of lunacy to not get a Gamecube.
PGR is effectively GT3. Well, this is excellent news seeing as GT3 is meant to be one of the PS2's finest!
Basically, MS have the tick-box launch. They have a good racer, fighter and FPS etc...
Which is EXACTLY what casual gamers want.
Oh, and as for the pad, with the except of the 2 top buttons,I had no probelm with it. I prefer the positioning of the analogue and the D-pad deign to the PS2, but hate those 2 buttons! But then again, I hated the N64 pad to start with... you'll get used to it!

1) The controller is simply bad. It does not feel confortable. I have played it, remember.
2) The games, with the exceptiopn of Halo, are very mediocre with beefed up graphics. PGR is GT3 effectively, DOA3 joins the stable of the 100s of fighters which are virtually the same with different graphics, Amped is SSX without the humour and with worse controls and Oddworld is odd, but not in the good way.
However I do think it will do well because of the rdiculously large amount of advertising that MS have plunged into it.
But it will be very interesting to see who comes out on top in the next generation. PS3 and X-box 2. Microsoft should have built up a good image for thier console by then. The initial misconceptions about it crashing becasue it is made by microsoft etc...should be eradicated by then.
