Zealotism is the gaming console world of those people who always buy the Nike or the Adidas trainers instead of the other ones on the shelf. It is brand loyalty pure and simple.
Most people after finding a zealot will often try and goad them by committing the holly sacrilege of slagging off their particular taste in console/game. More often than not this results in yet another console wars style debate, while it is by no means the most boring argument ever, it is losing its freshness, and is no less beginning to smell like the proverbial old man who has just soiled his briefs.
However I ask what’s so wrong with being a zealot? Is it so wrong to show loyalty to a company who has pleased you? I think not, in my opinion the more zealots a company has is a reflection of customer satisfaction, since we all think that the number of satisfied customers a company has is important, then why not follow the zealots?
I have the privilege of owning the original Gameboy, a SNES, a Playstation, a Nintendo 64, a GBA and when launch day comes a Gamecube. I therefore identify myself as being a Nintendo zealot, and with good reason you may think, after all I have 4 generations of Nintendo consoles, so I would have to be a Nintendo zealot. But you are wrong as you can see I also own a Playstation, I have broken the cycle as it were, I could therefore say I am a Sony zealot as well, but I don’t. Why not? You may add, well put simply it’s not worth being a zealot over. Sure it was fun while it lasted, but the quality control was poor, I admit there were some classics on the system, metal gear anyone? But the console makers made none of them, and the system itself has almost snuffed it (it has to be turned on its side to load properly?). I therefore am not terribly enthused by Sony’s products, their Walkman is great but that’s a different story.
People may dismiss a zealot as being a fool with tunnel vision, well I say they are the opposite, they are people who know what they like and like what they get. They are not the sheep that follow the flock, they go with their instinct, like a reverse osmosis.
It is all too fitting to say that zealots are so enlightened, but I have to admit loyalty doesn’t always work. Hello Sega fans. The loyalty you showed to your company, by buying your precious Dreamcast was thoroughly stamped on, I think that is all wrong, however Sega’s financial background could not be helped, but loyal customers were left feeling stupid and that’s never nice.
So as I draw my paraphrase to a timely close I ask all you casual gamers in no mans land, why do you not come in from the cold and commit yourself to the familiarity of a company you know you can trust?
Thanks for reading. CM :)

Zealot! Zealot! Zealot!
Heh, just kidding... (you lousy zealot, heh)

Yes but they were already playstation owners (well most of them). They would have become zealots after being satisfied with the PS, thus fitting into my theory.

Shigeru Miyamoto.
You begin by saying that a Zealot is someone who blindly follows a company whatever they do. They dicount any competition as not being any good, and praise even the worse products.
Then you say Zealots are alreight because they have got customer satisfaction. Fair enough, however, often this satisfaction is based on their wish to be satisfied, and not the quality of the product. Let's face it, the PS2 launch was one of the worst ever. But Ps2 fans still to this day say it was a great triumph for Sony- just a complete lie.
They were only satisfied because they had the "cool" new technology in their hands.
Even worse is that such people go on to say that the Xbox is terrible without playing one. Being completely objective about it, the Xbox has a far better launch line up, and easily compares to the PS2 overall.
These Sony zealots were the people who preordered their console before seeing PS2 games, or just seeing the original PS2 demos showing 70 man tekken brawls... complete garage. And yet they all so often ignore all of Sony's lies.
Worst of all is then they say "Xbox is rubbish coz it crashed at e3". Well, they somehoe ignore the fact that the PS2, one month before launch, crashed repeatedly in both demo form, and main screen show form at Sony's own confernece. Sony even had to employ Japanese girls to stand next to demo pods for the sole reason to reset them WHEN they crashed (not "if"). And then MS has one crash, in one demo, at one game show, and the Xbox is "the biggest pile of s**t".
Sonic
I remember when Sega was gradually failing and the letters to Digi were STILL pouring in about how great they were and how good the games and console was
Then you get the zealot replies, from Sony zealots usually
And already there are X-Box/Microsoft zealots, they're all over the forums here
Nintendo zealots are the most passive, they don't explode with rage like the immature Sony or Sega zealots. But bad mouth Nintendo or the bloke who made Mario (proves I'm not a zealot, I don't have a clue what the guy's name is) and they'll unite to put you and your console of choice down
