Everyone has different tastes in music, why even bother trying to tell someone the music they listen to is crap? If they like it, then does it matter? The music they listen to isn't going to effect you is it? You don't have to listen to it.
And if you have to criticise bands, have some kind of practical criticism, something constructive. "They suk coz all da songs sound lik da uvvers theyve dun" is not exactly something constructive. There is a lot of music out there that I would view as kind of fake, but I don't go around insulting any genre I don't like, because what other people listen to is their own choice, and makes no difference to me. What really annoys me is people who think they know it all talking crap about a genre that they obviously have no clue about.
A mate of mine says all Punk/Metal/Heavy rock is exactly the same, and refuses to believe that the music I like (various types of Punk) includes any other lyrics than "Die!" and crap like that. He also says he can't understand any of the lyrics. Now, isn't that a contradiction? Now, I know the kind of lyrics in the songs I listen to. And they are not like he describes, and often quite the opposite. But he and other people at my school think they must be somehow better because they have better (ie. more popular) taste in music. Now I don't really care about what others say about the music I listen to, I love it, it is real, not full of macho pretense or rockstar ego, so why do you think blindly insulting someone elses taste will effect their choice of music?
